Brewing a NEIPA w/ Galaxy, Amarillo, Idaho7 & Columbus. My last batch was all whirlpool hops and I'm not a big fan. Today, I'll be doing a number of small additions at 60, 10, 5, 0 and 160° whirlpool. Voss Kveik yeast. First time spunding as well.

Finally back in the saddle after a 4 month hiatus. Brewed up a Belgian tripel this morning. Only the second one I’ve ever brewed, and the first I put a little spin on it with some NZ hops as a DH. This one is true to style. Just a few points shy of my target OG of 1.077. My mash efficiency was a little lower than expected, looked like the crush performed by the LHBS wasn’t the greatest, could still see some whole kernels of grain. Boiled a little longer to get me closer to my expected OG, only had to sacrifice 0.25 gals of wort.

Brewed an English Dark Mild yesterday. Looking for a beer that will turn around quickly. Fermenting strongly today, smelling great thusfar. Should come out just below 4%

Also kegged up my Czech Dark Lager, was tasting really good but will be aging it a bit more before putting on tap.

Brewed a hefeweizen over the weekend:
    61% Pale Wheat
    17% Pale ale
    17% Vienna
    5% caramunich
    WLP-531

It was not without drama, of course, This was my second brew with my new cooler lauter tun with stainless steel braid. I had been using paint strainer bags to separate the wort from the grain in the past, and almost tossed them last week as I was cleaning up. I am so happy I didn't. I was so used to my old methods that I did not consider that lautering a high percentage of wheat would be an issue.

I batch sparge, so I vorlaufed till the wort ran clear, and then let the sparge run... and within 5 minutes, I realized I had a stuck sparge on my hands. Lesson learned: invest in some rice hulls next time I brew a hefeweizen. What a PIA! I got out the strainer bags and finished manually separating the grains. What a mess!

But, in the end, I made beer, and that is all that matters!

    Happy National Beer Day

    Prost!

Mash a little high and add a bunch of NaCl to sweeten it up and add some fullness and dry hop the crap out of it. Seems to work pretty well.

Been filling up old tupperware with water in the freezer all week to make a bunch of giant ice cubes. Gearing up to brew a pilsner this weekend and test out my fermentation control chamber for the first time with a lager.

Reading CNN, you'd think every hospital is being overrun by a zombie apocolypse. I'm glad to hear that's not the case, at least in your case.

There is a definite uptick in Icu and they aren’t calling for our peak till April 13th. In the mean time ya we have more ventilated patients. Don’t take it lightly but not every city is NYC with 8 million people. I’m lucky enough to work for a hospital that has plenty of masks, gloves, gowns.

Made a starter for the saison I will be brewing this weekend. Another iteration of my house saison but this time I grabbed Weyermann Barke Pils and Barke Vienna, hopefully some different flavors will come through in the finished product even though this is a yeast-centric beer.
