Local pickup might be happening soon, no excuse now.

No kidding, both sides are to blame. I don't suspect anyone thought there would be this kind of line for an IPA.

I still think Veil should have foreseen heavy traffic at some point, and organized those people when it became clear the mob had descended. Breweries act like they’re the only ones to ever experience wild demand.

They definitely should have cleared it out after that lined formed.

Next COVID cluster in VA gonna be due to this. Semi srs

idk why you just wouldn’t shut down the release immediately and tell people to go home. What’d you expect when you told people “act fast because this one will go quick”

"Our sincerest apologies to the entire Richmond area. We had no idea with the release of Sector 5 today what the response would be. Since the beginning of the COVID 19 pandemic we have worked hard to ensure the safety of our customers as well as our staff throughout this entire ordeal. There have been no lines up until this point and we were quite honestly ill prepared to handle today’s response appropriately. We have had taped off 6ft guidelines in our parking lot and opened more registers immediately to ensure we moved through the line as quickly and cleanly as possible. Within the first hour the line was cleared. We have always maintained that it is also the public’s responsibility to maintain social distancing guidelines when in an outdoor public space. As a reminder we are also offering our beer for delivery and shipping within Virginia and DC to help reduce any congregating at our locations. Today completely caught us off guard and we’re working hard to find a resolution to prevent this in the future. As a first step to further ensure the safety of our customers and team we’ll be enforcing our policy of no more than 10 people allowed on the property at once (including adjacent sidewalks). This is effective immediately at both of our locations. We hope that we can work together with our community to still be able to provide our beer, but with a priority on safety."

Not sure how that effectively changes anything. Do an online release with pickup times adequately spaced out or literally anything to dissuade a major lineup.

How does this measure do anything more than push the line further away from Veil’s property and adjacent sidewalks?

Agreed but Veil is too good to take more responsibility than a simple apology. They are painting lines on the sidewalk but won't have staff enforcing the guidelines. They will sell out immediately online but not open up more product than they allocate for these services and prevent such gatherings. They open up the full amount of their daily availability for shipping / delivery and then announce how much is left for to-go in person pick up instead of limiting how much they will sell online. That will help prevent people from showing up.

The damage is done. That many people concentrated in one area during this crisis.

I'm certainly not absolving Veil's blame share but honestly you guys could foresee that many people lining up for a 12% "quad ipa?" Gross.
I for one am a little surprised, it's not a BA stout. They 100% should have shut it down asap when they saw a line of morons forming.

I’m not saying they should have foreseen this level of turnout for that beer. I’m saying large scale turnout is inevitable, and whoever was handling IP sales should have had some kind of plan for that.

I doubt the ABC will do anything but they should be fined/cited/closed for taproom sales for a period of time after this. Not absolving the people who went, but this is The Veil's fault at the end of the day. They gamified getting this beer and enticed people to SA.

Someone asked if they did open back up and Veil did respond the taproom was back selling and following their guidelines from their post. Now, let's hope the hold their staff accountable for enforcing the guidelines going forward since they haven't been able to do to previously.

“In response to our overwhelming turnout today, starting tomorrow we will no longer be offering sales of to go beer at either of our tap rooms. We unfortunately can not in good conscience continue to move forward with in-person sales in a safe and responsible manner at our tap rooms. We will be moving to 100% deliveries for the remainder of the week while we work on implementing an online order system for curbside pick up. Our goal is to have this up and running as soon as next Tuesday 4/21. Online orders for Shipping in VA and DC will also still be available.⠀

These changes are not easy and are a complete 180 from what our business model once was, but we are truly focused on continuing to keep our staff and customers safe through this all. There will be new guidelines and restrictions set in place for Shipping, Delivery and Curbside. Please be sure to read through these all carefully when we do announce our new platforms. ⠀

*Effective immediately, if you have not received an invoice for your delivery order you will be required to resubmit a new order at 10am tomorrow. Any orders received before 10am will not be responded to. This way we can assure all orders received are processed on a first come first serve basis. Your order is guaranteed to be delivered once you have received an invoice. Please bear with us as we continue to do our best to learn and adapt to these ever changing circumstances.”

Seemed like Veil had all sorts of issues with delivery around NFK yesterday. How can a brewery that supposedly pays so much attention to detail pretty much make the ordering process like something from the 80s. 200+ emails came in right at 10am (according to them) and they didn't notify some people until 6 hours later that they didn't make the cut. Seems like it would be pretty easy (even the way they are doing it) to get back to people within a couple hours at most. Hopefully when they get the new process for curbside next week they also improve their archaic steps to place an order.
