West Coast IPA Thread

Yeah it looks like the Pupil is still everyone’s favorite from Societe. It was a killer ipa back when it first came out. I was there on my Alpine days filling my growlers with Pupil and Apprentice. I thought maybe it was too late in the game canning from these guys. Maybe not.

 

I know this is more of an apples to oranges type question, but if any of you have had KRBC Citra and Societe Pupil recently, which one would you choose?

 

Pupil. And that’s from a believer in Citra. Back in the day og Citra DIPA. This batch is good+. But that Pupil is so clean n fresh. Like og. My thoughts. Or try both?

 

Thanks. I don't drink as much these days so I'm trying to limit it to just one place. Also considering North Park Hop Fu.

 

I’ve had all 3 cans recently, I’d rank them Citra by a hair over Pupil then Hop Fu as a distant third.

 

Hop Fu is far better than the other two imo.

 

Hop Fu was good, but I preferred the Sorta Mostly Dead from them. That was one of the better WCIPAs I've tried recently. Someone mentioned that they might be brewing more, so that might be available for shipment again soon. High 6 is another recent favorite from HPB.

 

New batch of SMD was brewed last week, I'd expect it towards the end of the month. I'm eagerly awaiting it, that first batch was incredible.

 

I guess I'll either go local or opt for Pupil until SMD comes out. Bummed I missed out on Turok Hunter since that's my fav west coast IPA up here.

 

Last time I had pupil was around 2015 and I Loved it back then , one of my favorite ipas at the time ( before the haze craze) . Looking forward to getting some at my local store soon!

 

This fresh batch (delivered to Nor Cal) of Alvarado Street Mai Tai Ipa is a great tropical WC IPA.

 

Why the hell did I just notice this thread? I clearly need to work less. Anyway, shelter in place is killing me, and I'm down to about 2 cases of Lagunitas IPA, which I have never appreciated this much in my life. God help Santa Cruz when I can get out and buy something new.

 

Latest batch of Citra, canned 4/6 and delivered today is outstanding. (But not Just Outstanding.)

 

For you Humble Sea aficionados, how have their west coast IPAs been? This sounds real good:

In my experience they are heavy in the grassy, resiny, 420dank, aromatics and flavors. I thought they were really solid!

 

Last batch (two weeks prior) was also quite solid. Malty, in the best way.

 

I was able to gets cans of SMD up here in NORCAL. Glad I remembered it from the discussion here. It was good. Looking forward to the next batch and hoping it hits Norcal distro again.

 

Just grabbed a 4 pack of New Urban brewing Do You Even Mosaic Broh?. Never heard of the brewery but its a solid all mosaic WC IPA. I'd be interested to try any other west coast stuff from these folks

 

Interesting. I felt like this was an off batch and malty, in the worst way.
