    I'd say 15 minutes

But yeah - Mikerphone and Polyanna are very close (among others), and there's a Kuma's a couple of blocks from the old Ram location that has a better beer list than The Ram ever had.

Mount Prospect. There is Mikerphone in Elk Grove which is 12 minutes away. Fibs in Des Plaines in 13 minutes away. Une Annee is 25 minutes away. What am I missing that is 10 minutes away? It will be nice when Beer on the Wall opens in Arlington Heights. Currently the closest craft beer shop is their Park Ridge location 25 minutes away.

Forgot about Fibs! Yeah, there are quite a bit more: Itasca Brewing, Church St., Lucky Monk, Wolf Den Brewing, Pollyanna, Granite City. From Ram, you would hit these anywhere from two minutes (Granite City) to about fifteen minutes (Wolf Den).

To be fair, if you get a little farther Northwest towards Elgin, the # of breweries per population is dramatically decreased compared to Schaumburg/Arlington heights area or a little south in the West Suburbs of Lombard/Villa Park area to further west St Charles area...

Elgin is FAR past due for a brewery.. especially with such beautiful downtown architecture. Too bad this coronavirus may make it even tougher for Elgin to get one in the future.

Ok on topic lol, Dusty might be my favorite offering from More.. I enjoy it more than their other kinds of IPAs, DIPAs, DDH, etc.

Tavour’s “hoppy hour box” included cans of More’s Orange Cream Marbles. That seems... surprising to me.

I saw that and thought it was odd as well.

Tavour is paying top dollar for beer right now. And it's guaranteed sales in an uncertain time. Nothing too crazy going on.

Except that the release sold out in 6 minutes online. So did they buy directly outside of the release? More hinted that they’d handle the next release differently.

No, the release to the public sold out. As Jplachy is pointing out, in order for Tavour to take off and succeed where others have failed they have to offer rare beer people can't get easily. Every other mail order beer company has not achieved the level of success because they can't get good stuff. Tavour is better off overpaying on a few rare beers and making up the money in the box with some easier to find stuff just to attract people. I'm sure they are following the business models of Silicon Valley/App designers where the goal is to sign up as many people as possible to justify an extreme valuation and worry about how to make a profit later on the investors dime.

They have a new facility that depends on foot traffic. That beer will have to go somewhere.

yeah I think we’re on some different wavelengths here. I was surprised to learn they are buying hype beers post secondary (according to House and Plachy) and mailing those out. What you’re saying about regular inventory (say Clamp & Gasket or Dusty, etc.) makes sense if it’s More selling directly to them.

They are buying the beer directly from More.

I'd assume it's coming directly from them

I think you misunderstand, we never stated secondary. We are saying Tavour buys direct from the brewers at a price sweeter than they would get from selling directly to the consumer.

So you’re saying Tavour is the Gold Coast Tickets of the craft beer industry.

They do have a new faculty. But foot traffic is not the model they plan to rely on. They are either signed to a distributor or plan on signing with one soon.

I do find it odd that MoRe would send beer out of state instead of to local retailers. Doesn’t seem sensible when they should be getting ready to forge new relationships with retailers and introducing themselves to new customers who shop for beer on the shelves.

Is this a theory or a known fact? I’m curious how tavour works. It’s weird to me that tavour succeeds. I can hardly keep up with the local beer market, let alone keep track of what goes on a website like tavour.

Tavour's popularity has exploded in the last 30 days. You can't leave your house and here's your chance to pay a premium for out of market beer. When I used Tavour last Summer you usually had a few days to decide if you wanted that day's beer. Now you have hours or minutes. They've also taken a "its easier to ask for forgiveness than permission" approach to shipping beer. They just basically ship beer to a state until they get a slap on the wrist for it.
