Perhaps we could talk them into letting us do a fantasy beer draft for the next years schedule

At least Spruce has been out in sampler packs the past few years. So many haven't seen light of day.

There are a bunch I'd love to see again, Im hopeful we might see weezy soon as he was on the anniversary party flyer.

I wondered about that, too. If they're doing a Mr Roger's theme, then Weezy (X the Owl), Noble Chaos (King Friday), and Evil Urges (Daniel Tiger?) should be on tap. It's been a while since I've seen the old episodes, the only other characters I remember are Lady Elaine (Empress Catherine?) and Mr. McFeely (I've got nothing for this one).

Maybe even do a March Madness Bracket. We could have a hops region for all IPAs/PAs, a dark region (any dark beers), and the other two regions could be a mix of experimental, light, and sour beers.

I miss Noble Chaos. I drank that year round a few years back when they put it in 12pks and no one bought it. I would pick up a 12pk every trip to my local Meijer and once they ran out I thought I wouldn't drink it until the next fall. Luckily by end of winter the 12pks were showing up a discount liqour places for $8.99 and those held me over until it was released in 6pks the next fall.

I like the idea. I bet a lot of BAs would participate. It would be cool if Shorts would acknowledge it.

I think this is a great idea. I gave it some thought and there's a couple ways we could work it.

We could go the traditional 4 conference route: Hoppy (IPA, IPL, Pale Ale, etc), Roasty/Dark (Stout, Porter, Brown), Malty (Amber, Pils, most Euro styles), and FES (fruit, experimental, sours).

We could also do six conferences to break things out and add more beers: Hoppy, Malty, Roasty, European, Fruity/Experimental, and Sour (wild, Gose, etc).

We can use polls to determine who wins Head to head matches. Seeds can be determined randomly, like names out a hat for simplicity.

The hardest part would be picking who goes in the tourney in the first place. We want deep portfolio cuts and long-lost friends. IMO, it should be:
    1) brews that have been pub-only so far
    2) brews that have only appeared in variety packs
    3) no brews that have been seasonals for the past few years
    4) no brews that have been limited releases in the last few years
    5) chain-specific brews (Citra Local's, My Good Boy, Lemon Hop Stand, etc) would qualify since there's a geographic barrier to getting them

Like I said, this is a good idea so I was really giving it some thought.

    What do you guys think?

A pub only bracket limits participation for people like me who have only been to the pub ones. Or, you could make people guess. I think you have to limit the brackets to bottled brews & distributed brews.

For brackets, perhaps the route to go is IPAs, desert beers, weird adjuncts (ie cinnabilly or spruce pilsner), and sour/wild ales. Not sure if this is the best way.

I think the survey has to be only for beers that were in bottles (are there any that were tap-only and in distro?). The point is to try to bring back beers that are only a memory now, so how do we decide on how long out of production or distribution does a beer need to be in order to be considered for the contest? I don't have any notes that can help. Maybe we need to look at when a bottled beer was entered here on BA and when the last review was added?

Peaches and Cream was mentioned above as out of production. Wasn't there an un-announced distro of it a couple summers ago? Maybe it went to selected retail accounts? Or maybe I'm thinking of Strawberry Shortcake?

The other variable would be seeding. I think seeding should be based on average BA score.

As long as a beer has been bottled, I think it should qualify. The beers that we have not seen bottled for an extended period are the ones we miss most. For example, Peaches has not been bottled in 10+ years. I am pretty sure it has been on tap at the pub though. I think it deserves a spot.

The pub-only suggestion was for potential beers to vote on, not a separate bracket. Having a separate bracket for pub only definitely would be a bad idea, as you suggested. Limiting selection to distro only will definitely make adding beers easier.

I think I remember hearing something similar around Short's Fest in 2016 when they bottled Creamiest of the Peach. Last official release of Peaches I could find was 2013.

Yeah they could just re release that entire year and I'd be happy. It was just announced they added Oakland county to home deliveries on their website. Also available for delivery is a new refreshing session variety pack.

Thanks for pointing that out! There's the Huma Lite and Fuzzy Buddy. It's weird they say Metro Detroit but then specify Oakland County. The metro area is bigger than that....

Peaches has definitely been bottled in the last 10 years. I think maybe even twice in the last 10 years. It's been awhile though. I'd guess since maybe 2013???

It must have been very limited distribution, because I feel like I would have searched it out.
