What I got from the OP was that this "fake expert" doesn't take others opinions(reviews) into consideration. So he is in fact rolling the dice. Picking a beer blindly. I agree with the "fake expert" to a certain extent. "My own taste is law." Although I'm not going to drop 10 dollars on a bomber 2,000 people really didn't care for when I can buy a 10 dollar bomber 2,000 people said was fantastic. All I'm saying that it's probably wise to take reviews into some consideration. Just the other day I was about to buy a bottle of Amnesia IPA. I didn't because of the reviews. Later on that day I went to the same store and said fuck it let me give it a shot. Just to remind my self of the importance of reviews I guess. It sucked. It was a waist of 2 dollars. That's where I think the reviews help. Oh. It would also help if the OP explained whether or not the "fake expert" was talking in a condescending tone. I assume he was which is the reason I thought about this trivial matter to this degree. I don't know. That's just my opinion I could be wrong.

I don't consider myself a "beer expert" but have discovered that I know more about beer than many "experts" i have spoken to. Most just seem to be beer snobs who like to hear their own voice.

met a bartender yesterday that seemed pretty knowledgable then told me she has a bottle of alpine duet that she has had for over a year but wasn't sure if she should drink it or not...

All reviews should be followed with
    "your results may vary".
I might not like what somebody else thinks is world class, or vice versa. Taste to me has always been subjective.
