This is why Chevy made the Buick. The Boss drove a Buick to work, nicer than an Impala but not too flashy. And like the Buick, Mic was not really much better than crappy old Bud. Just more expensive.

And they buried the corpse of Buick many years ago and many years too late.

I would have rather had a Lowenbrau anyway.
    Cheers

Yeah, no idea why both Michelob and Heineken ditched those awesome bottles. Heck, I would sometimes order a Heineken just because I thought I looked cooler.

I spent 2 years in college surviving on dollar Michelobs and free wings at a restaurant by me. Good times. Hope this doesn't actually happen. It would be sad to see 1 more piece of my childhood die.

    Come on.
Really? I'm familiar with the second design and never saw the first one.

If I was not on the work computer I could Google and post an image that rhymes with Nut Rug.
    Just wow.

Well, just like Michelob, Buick is still made (by GM, not Chevy) -- but maybe they don't sell them in Daytona either.:wink:

That 12 pack they put out 6-8 years ago with the Porter, wheat, pale and rye pale was pretty solid. Notably that rye pale.

As an under age drinker in the late 70's Michelob was the special occasion beer. We mostly drank Genny at $1.39 a six or Vpac beer at .99¢ if we were really broke. Other beers were Colt 45 and Molson Export. We used to say Weekends were made for Michelob regardless of what we were drinking.

GM is making Michelob now? I hope they bring the old bottle back.

You see? Nobody even knew they still make Buicks. I think they went away with Pontiac. But no. Nobody knew they still make Michelob either.
I blame China. Maybe China can start buying Mic and keep that shite alive too.

    Cheers

Michelob, Andecker, Erlanger, Augsburger, Lowenbrau .... on pay day back in the 80s, we owed it to ourselves.

I only see the Amber Bock on the shelves, honestly I'd buy it if it were available. I always thought it could have been the "craft" side of AB.

And now all we have is Stella - what a downgrade! At least Löwenbräu is still delicious in Bavaria - though it should come back here as a mass-import.

Interesting thought. Before AB took over distribution of Spaten here in the US, there was a solid base, probably would have been a good fit too. Can you imagine 12pks of Spaten helles for $13-15?

That sounds like a dream! But there might be something here...might it be that they sabotaged Spaten’s chances to promote their other brands and eliminate internal competition within their portfolio?

In any case, it’s a shame they went with the inferior product.

They tried that about 25 years ago:

I recall an online video filmed obviously at the AB brewery in St. Louis where they attached a "Michelob Brewing Co." sign above a side doorway and featuring what was obviously a pilot-type brewery inside the multi-million barrel capacity AB home brewery.

Look around the 'net and one can still find wording like:

No need to imagine for some parts of the country--that's what they cost ($15 or a little under) at some places in MN and WI.

The bottle was built in advertising, you could tell from 100 ft away who had one in his hand. Back in the day it was considered a premium beer, the beer you drank if you had a little extra money. Heineken was a luxury beer, only one bar I can think of always had it in tap, they also made the best burgers on the planet. We’d start a Sat there , have a few beers, a burger, then go drink cheap at one of the 100 bars in Trenton.

Yes, fondly loved picking up two bottles while hitting center strip. The small smokey Stage Door Casino across from Bally's / behind Barberry Coast carried Michelob for a year or two @ $1 per as well before pulling the plug. PBR was the latest $1 special the last time I passed by. Stopped going in when they installed metal detectors at the door (unfortunately warranted at times, passed by after a murder in the parking lot one trip).

Yes, but slot machines will cost you a lot more than the cost of any "comped" beer.

The Casino Royale Michelob special (or $.75 Heineken special at Westward Ho) were great for folks looking for a convenient cold beer walking from casino to casino, especially in the summer. Also worked well for the short time the $1 Michelob were available when White Castle opened, sure beat paying $4 or $5 for a White Castle pop.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale was the first "craft" beer I ever had, when the Wynn first opened. Really enjoyed it. Still go to Vegas regularly, not to gamble but to visit family. Thankfully they have several good breweries and a few very good beer stores and bars throughout the valley.

Never quite sure when "back in the day" was , but within the brewing industry Michelob was in the so-called "Super Premium" price segment* - it pretty much created and dominated that marketing segment for decades.

    * I imagine there are some old AB execs who still do. Now, all those ABInBev new-hires (who may or may not have dropped the beer from the company's portfolio) likely put it into the "Granny's Beer" marketing segment.
