Mikerphone Brewing (2020)

Speaking of GBH, what happened with Uppers and Downers? Did that happen or was it postponed? Where is the beer?

For anyone interested, Barrel-aged Icky Thump is available again from Mikerphone.

It is their collaboration with The Bruery.

Question is, can you taste the barrel?

 

I wouldn't really say stalking, but I was impressed with the last two offering I bought (Mikerphone solo and Special Sauce) that I thought I would make another purchase.

This time I bought Upper Echelon and Slim Hazy.

Icky Thump happened to pop up, so I bought 1 of them too. A bit steep at $27.99 so I only bought one.

Upper Echelon tastes like pineapple juice that you would get from a can of dole pineapples . I really like the taste but not sure if it is going to flip my stomach upside down

I’ve found myself to really like the Mikerphone beers I’ve had lately as well. BA Party Dress, BA OMWM, BA Icky Thump and Mikerphone Solo have all been really good. I’ll probably start throwing some more business their way. Seems like I’ve heard their hoppy stuff has been more dialed in.

I’m intrigued by some of the hoppy stuff they have now but just don’t need anymore hops at this point.

 

yeah the new Upper Echelon looks interesting and the recent releases of crushcrush and Drippin’ we’re both good. But I’m with you, my fridge barely has room for food right now

 

If I wasn't going to MORE and Energy City this weekend I would easily grab UE. Getting high marks! Mikerphone has done really really well lately.

 

I recognize I’m going to sound like a jerk asking this, but... is Mikerphone doing better now because Mike is actually focused on brewing, as opposed to what seemed like endless collab trips and biz dev?

 

My buddy in Brooklyn who has been going to Other Half, since the early days, says the same....says the beer is the best it’s been. They are pretty much 100% focused on the beer with no distractions.

 

Anyone try Cafe Agogo? I'm hearing good things.

 

Honestly, I feel they have been dialed in since the beginning of the year. The Mikerphone Check 1,2 released in February was a turning point. That batch was awesome, and everything I've personally had since then has been really good.

I thought it was really good. Very, very coffee-forward though, might not be for everyone.

Their last batch of Vanillanoize was kind of bad. Smelled a little like that old scratch and sniff "tire" scent. But other than that, everything I've tried from them this year has been top notch.

 

Picked up their All Together IPA today. Aside from some slight hop burn, I thought this was a very good beer. One I think most hazeheads should enjoy. This one has more heft than the Phase Three one but both were good beers for a good cause.

 

Damn. Spacebar surprised me. Tasting fantastic.

 

Spacebar has always been one of my favorites from Mikerphone (except for the one time it looked like apple cider, but they have that taken care of now).

Anyway, Mike is selling used barrels, which means they just dumped them, which means a BA release soon. I'm assuming it's BAISLBS?

 

BAISLBS should be soon. He posted the labels on Instagram maybe 2 weeks ago.
