Parabola and Black Xanthus

    I've never had Parabola, but I've had Xanthus and its pissah! My buddies who I drank Xanthus with have had Parabola and they said it reminded them or Parabola. Since Xanthus is made with retired Firesone barrels how closely related are these beers? Both are RIS. Plus just spotted some Xanthus at one of my regular bottle shop stops and will be stocking up.

    Is this a good or a bad thing? What is pissah even slang for?

    I didn't think they were anything alike, honestly (other than the fact that they are similar in style). I thought Black Xantus was much fruitier whereas Parabola has stronger roasted malt and bourbon aspects.

    Good thing Black Xanthus seems to be easier to get than parabola in my area and pissah means wicked awesome.

    Now I want Parabola more, would like to try a RIS like Xanthus with more roast and bourbon

    i like Xantus, but its not as good as parabola in my opinion. fresh its tasty and coffee forward. also i can find parabola fora few dollars cheaper when its released so thats a big plus.

    i did find xantus on sale for 9.99 once and took 4 of them. they were batch 2, i should crack one and see how its tasting. I had the first bottling of it in 2009 and drank it when the giants won the world series in 2010, at the time it was the most expensive beers i had purchased up untill that point. shows you how much has changed since.

    EDIT: its also important to note that the batches have changed slightly in taste since they started making it.

    I can't find Xantus and I really want to try it fresh. I can get Parabola easy though, good stuff.

    Is it true that they still use FW barrels? The Nectar line isn't brewed by Firestone anymore.

    Anybody had Xantus aged? I've still got a bottle from 2011. Thinking about whether I should pop it or wait...

    Xanthus is much sweeter than Parabola. They are both superb stouts, but I much prefer my 2011 Parabola.

    "Wicked Awesome." People really still say that? Not sure Pissah is any better, but in all seriousness....save the money you're spending on Xantus and put it towards Parabola. Xantus is rediculously overpriced in comparison to it's respective style.

    Had this back to back on tap a few months ago and DEFINITELY did not think they were similar at all.

    Black xantus is a little more chalky. I like it though.

    Parabola is chocolate roast heaven. not that I believe there is such a place.

    Have a 2011 Xantus int the fridge I might have to open tonight. Parabola is rated almost 0.40 higher than Xantus.

    If you ask me
    Black Xantus = more oak & coffee flavors
    Parabola= bourbon & chocolate
    Both good beers !
