Interesting to hear for Blightly and OZ but it makes me wonder if anyone actually brews “for” Kronenbourg in the US or if France just ship them over there. Assuming Americans even drink it.

I am not aware that any US brewery contract brews Kronenbourg but it would interesting to see which of the European brewed beers are imported: France (Carlsburg Group) or UK (Heineken). My guess would be the French version?
It is available for sale so some Americans must be buying it. I must confess to the best of my recollection I have never had any of the Kronenbourg beers. Maybe I should purchase a single of Kronenbourg 1664 (if I can find a fresh bottle) and discuss it on NBS. Can you please confirm that they date these beers with an understandable date (e.g., Bottled on May 6, 2020)?

    Cheers!

    @JackHorzempa

I just spent the last 10 minutes scouring the internet to know if these various 1664 bottles have a bottling date and failed. I can only purchase a sixer or a single and will get back to you later.

The simple reason I have never bothered to check this out before is it’s safe to assume we get them fresh enough here. I just buy a pack and drink it, something I am more careful with any foreign, transatlantic beer.

You are a must more trusting soul than I am. I always check the dates of the beers I purchase even if they are brewed 5 miles away. Just too many old beers on my local beer retailers' shelves.:slight_frown:

    Non-cheers to old beer.

That’s true but the space on the shelves for 1664 (both a cheap here and fairly consumed beer) just goes empty too fast and refilled quickly for me to be sure they aren’t dusty, shelf turds.

Well, that is a good thing from a beer freshness perspective. Maybe Yuengling Traditional Lager is the same thing in my area (I am not a regular consumer of this beer to really know that answer).

    Cheers!

My BL came from stealing a bottle of my Dads back in the day, that was the preferred beer of The Middletown Twp Police Dept, my dad was a cop when I was a kid. When I was stationed in Jacksonville I mainly drank Millers.

My brother exclusively drink Yuengling by the case. He can always find traditional lager and Black and Tan but the others like chesterfield and Pilsner are almost non existent. The premium or light can be found at the shadier hood liquor stores. Bucks county/ Bristol bridge jersey.

never heard him complain about off flavors or whatever and the man drinks them room temp as far as I know

But that was a domestic product, brewed by Carling Brewing Co., and later Carling National (sub's of Carling-O'Keefe in Canada) and then Heileman after they bought C-N in the late 1970s and so wound up in the Pabst portfolio after 1999 and the demise of Stroh/Heileman.

Had to go to Canada to get Canadian-brewed CBL.

Downed my share of Brador, which we bought in cases from the B.R.O and brought home via the Detroit-Windsor tunnel.

I can easily find both Lord Chesterfield and Golden Pilsner at all of my local beer retailers. FWIW my favorite of the Yuengling beers is Lord Chestefield; I enjoy the aroma of that beer.

    Cheers!

    JK, I previously posted:

"It is my understanding that any Black Label available to us today is brewed at Molson Coors breweries (maybe Trenton, OH?)."

Do you happen to know which of the Molson Coors breweries are producing Carling Black Label today? Are those beers solely sold in the US (i.e., do not make it to Canada)?

    Cheers!

Funny, I see them all in many lower-middle class as well as bourgeois neighborhood liquor stores, distributed by the same Yuengling house that covers that section of NJ - Kramer Beverage.

Yeah, contract-brewed for Pabst - though it's not currently on their website https://pabst.com/brands/ - like many other Pabst-owned brands. Pabst brands come and go (and their website's constantly changing for the worst) and they don't put effort into many of their brands - for instance, Ballantine and Schaefer are also both absent.

Nope. Last I heard Pabst's regional marketing area for it was the upper Mid-West/Great Lakes*, so likely could be Ohio or Milwaukee. You'd have to find a can and check MC's coding system

(* Which is kinda weird, but they did have breweries in Michigan and Illinois, still I always think of them as east coast - Baltimore, Mass. and Georgia - but they also had breweries in WA, AZ and TX over the years, too).
Molson in Canada bought Carling-O'Keefe in the late 1980s (so around a decade after Heileman bought Carling National here) and they still make a domestic Carling Lager up there. After 40 years, no recipe "relationship" to the Pabst contract-brew I imagine.

Just saw some Yuengling premium and premium light in the shoprite. Still haven’t seen chesterfield in a while though. Don’t really travel though

    Moosehead Premium Dry

Curious whether this one makes its way outside of NB or if anybody else had tried it. It’s not even on Moosehead’s website anymore, though it is widely available in 12-packs at our government liquor monopoly. In redesigned packaging even (older 2015 photo, the cans look different today)! Hard to imagine much gets sold anymore, but they wouldn’t make it if nobody was buying it, I suppose.

edit - I just noticed I’m using an Alpine glass here, but not in my previously posted photo of an Alpine beer..

Molson Dry was a budget brand available in Atlantic Canada up until fairly recently I believe it was $21.99 per 12-pack of cans. I haven't seen it in the past couple of years.
