It adds an element of danger. I've considered driving to Other Half to prove how badass I am.

This isn't the "first-first" time they've canned Edward. I've heard from the HF crew that Edward drops off quite a bit at 10 days, which is the reason they've never done a large scale can release. They're doing this canning run with the hope that folks adhere to the 10-day expiration.

If people don't, that's on them at this point. They've been very up front about the need to consume within 10 days.

Cool. Thanks. “Expires” is an odd choice of words imo. I love edward, but not a ringing endorsement of a beer if it drops off after less than two weeks. That’s all.

I mean... I suspect you’re just using hyperbole here when you say “none,” but I am a sample size of one individual with out-of-state plates that came up to VT to work remotely and ride this out in a more peaceful area, did in fact fully isolate for 3 weeks upon arriving here, and then did in fact pick up some HF beers last week.

I’m sure you’re right that many are abusing the situation, and it sucks, and I’d understand it if they switched to VT only, but... there are a few people trying to do this right.

Very fair. This would be speculation on my part, but its the first beer they brewed and it obviously holds a special place. They want it consumed at its best. When it's at it's best, it is the best, in my opinion.

Given the fact I can't really do anything for the foreseeable future, I'll have no problem consuming within 10 days :-).

I’m sure there are and good on you. Appreciate the honesty. Likely some hyperbole, but people don’t really surprise me when it comes to beer and why they wouldn’t think twice about ignoring the order stipulations just to get beer.

I agree and I do my best to abide by my growler tag dates and can date ranges for that exact reason. They’re releasing it when it’s ready and know the beer better than I do so I want to make sure I enjoy it under the prescribed timeframe.

    Nor would I.

Thank you for this post. We're in crazy times right now but I think most people are doing the right thing.

So lots of people say Edward "isn't the same". That's obviously a trend whenever a brewery ramps up production. Sometimes it's warranted, for sure.

But man, I've been going to HF since 2013 and for my money, Edward is and has always been an incredible beer. My palate isn't anything special though. I don't remember what the last batch tasted like. I just know I loved it and I love this current one.

I feel like people just say this about every beer these days. I'm with you though and fingers crossed I can drink an Edward again this summer sometime. I feel like it serves dual purpose, it's a drinking beer but also has so much depth to it if you want to nerd out over it. My favorite part, the aroma that I get to take in once a year when we are up there.

I agree completely. Such a drinkable beer but the depth of flavor is incredible.

And yeah the aroma is absurd. It's been awhile since I've cracked a can and my room immediately smelled like the beer in the can but here we are.

I was driving home from a wedding last summer and Worthy Burger was directly on the way. Now, I had had approximately 7,547 alcoholic beverages that weekend. I was ready to pass on a beer until I read "just tapped" HF Edward. Ah well.

I've always considered Edward "a more perfect SNPA".

I just cracked a can and it tastes as good as ever. Absolute perfection.

My 18 month old is tearing my house apart, my wife is giving me the side eye for drinking a beer at 4:00, and I'm completely oblivious to it all. Thank you Edward.

I mean they're drastically different stylistically just from the jump...comparing them isn't really...real? lol I don't know man...

It's pretty much exactly like saying:

I've always considered Julius "a more perfect Stone IPA"

I mean, they're both "IPA" and around the same ABV...right?

Yeah they’re both APAs, both similar ABV, and I like them both. Otherwise completely failing to see any similarities. I don’t think there is even any overlap in terms of hops used.

Obviously different hop profiles, filtration and yeast, but both were ahead of their time. Each was influential and the standard bearer for the style when they were initially released. It’s a fair comparison for benchmarks of pale ale and the continual evolution of craft beer.
