I haven't had a recent batch, but I had Batch 1 of Riwaka and Double Riwaka. I loved both. To me, Riwaka is super green melon forward, with dank citrus on the finish. Very unique and interesting. Sorry to hear you didn't have a similar experience.

Gladly take those 4 cans off your hands...

Riwaka is rather unique for sure. It’s the hardest hop in NZ to grow and it can be really different from lot to lot supposedly. I had some of the first batch of Double Riwaka and it was the best expression of the hop I’d had at that time.

I fall in the @Davl22 opinion category. I think they are drinking great, such a unique flavor. I don’t get anything vegetal.

Send them to me...in line after @wasatchback .I had the Dec-Jan batch, a couple of cans, and really enjoyed it. Also the September ‘19 batch, which I recall being unreal.

I must have had the September '19 batch. It was so freaking good, unlike any other single hop IPA I've had. Bubblegum and mint for me. Dry bitterness on the finish.

It's not bad but 'tastes like a plate of vegetables' and 'chowing down on garlic covered broccoli and raw onion'? Yikes.

Re: Double Riwaka. Love it, but don't adore it like I do the Riwaka Pale and IPA.

This is the first batch I've had fresh and I loved it, but I do not like it as much as their other single-hop doubles like Galaxy, Nelson, or Citra, or even S&S 6 which I believe is all Mosaic.

It's like ripe melon mixed with some bitter citrus. And it's got a bit of a bubblegum thing going on. Love it, and definitely don't get onion or broccoli.

It's not bad because it's HF and I can't, with all my heart, say they make a "bad" beer. And yes it tastes like a plate of vegetables to me.

If it tastes like a plate of vegetables, that’s what Shaun intended

Hot take but in almost all cases I prefer the single IPA or even pale ale for each hop than any of the corresponding HF doubles.

I would have to disagree with you there. Citra is the only hop I’ve had all three variations off, and I would rate them as follows: Double Citra, Citra pale ale, and Citra ipa.

Ok so, my palate is just hilarious.

I drank a Double Riwaka straight from the can and it was fantastic. A little dank on the end but it was very citrusy and absolutely no vegetables.

I'm guessing I poured into a dirty glass. Please forgive me, Shaun. I should never doubt you.

Don't beat yourself up. I am sure everyone here has accidentally poured beer into their garlic covered broccoli, onion, and vegetable glass at least once.

It could have been what you were eating before it or while drinking it or drinking before it as well. Also beers with a lot of hops can go through crazy transformations, but this probably is not the case if I had to guess.

Personally Double Riwaka was one of my favorite beers last year. It is a very unique flavor and I could see how it might not sit well with some. I was actually turned off a little by the single version Riwaka IPA, and felt the Double actually added a richer flavor/creaminess that enhanced from the single version. Susan has a nice balance of Riwaka hops as well. I think Double Riwaka is probably the most unique tasting Double IPA out there right now without adding any adjuncts like coconut or lactose, etc.

Btw I taste dank, vegetal grossness in every Trillium IPA now.

Tbh I think I just suck at beer.
