The Alchemist has been sending periodic drops (every 2-3 months) to the Philly area for some time now (1-2 years). My local Wegmans had it a few weeks ago.

A much shorter drive for you.

    Cheers!

List is disqualified for having 5 of the 15 being:
    Pilsner Urquell
    The Alchemist Heady Topper
    Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
    Brasserie Dupont Saison Dupont
    North Coast Old Stock Ale

When 1/3 of the beers on your underrated list are all time classics, you don't get to be on the internet any more.

Or maybe just define for whom your article is intended and don't assume that your audience is all the same subset of beer drinkers.:slight_smile:

We are pedantic snobs but at least well-aware of it. :grinning:

The title of the Gear Patrol article should have been: 15 Random Tasty Beers From Around the World, Some Well Known and Some Not So Well Known"

And if you put a beer on a list from a local little known brewery, it is not really "underrated", it is a a good beer you may not have had or heard of (i.e. Schilling or Mayflower). It could actually be highly rated.

The North Coast Berliner I can vouch for. I picked one up off the discount rack for $1 a bottle and Had low expectations, but I was really impressed with the quality of that fruited Berliner. Definitely worth checking out if you like those types of beers.

I'll just say this - I don't think Gear patrol's article was directed at the classics loving subset of Beer Advocate users who all at various points will sing the praises of many of these beers ... I think that article was directed at the same beer drinkers we all try to convince to go back and try/appreciate some of these classics ...

Its also interesting to note that each of these "under-appreciated" beers was picked by a brewer. So for instance, Heady Topper was chosen by @augiecarton ... I am sure he had a good reason for picking that one.

I still don't love the style, but theirs are tasty and from what I understand are about the only things even remotely close to the spirit of.the style that's available domestically

An underrated beer for me is Who Cooks For You by Jackie O's

I have Pseudo Sue and Zombie Dust sitting in my fridge, and TBH that's a better pale sometimes depending on the batch

I’m really enjoying this beer from the article right now - a great American porter that I loved in the past but rarely get to drink. Just a coincidence on a certain level.

Yes, Heady Topper and Focal Banger are getting some limited distribution in the Los Angeles area.

But it does sell out pretty quickly for an "underrated" beer.

Side note: Given that it is actually rated on this site as "World Class - 100". I'm curious what their definition of underrated is?

The big problem is it's a stupid fucking list. 15 great beers, sure. Underrated? About half of them are well known world class beers. But it's from the same website that keeps telling me I need to buy some $350 sweat pants, so I guess I should keep my expectations low.

SNPA was my first pick. Boddingtons is also under rated.

When I lived in the UK, London Pride was my go to daily beer. So good.

Last night, I was at the beer store and I decided to grab some SN Pale Ale because I hadn’t had it in awhile and it’s damn delicious. Totally underrated.
