Every single time I have one, I think to post this. Tonight I remembered. Supernaut is the near perfect beer to have in the fridge. So damn good at 5.8%. Holds on very well such that you don’t need to worry about an over purchase. And as with all of NEBCO, the price is fantastic, as well.

March 3rd, I didn’t take it. Clearly stuff coming back from bars.

    That’s pretty sleazy!

What’s sleazy, bars returning kegs or me not taking it?

Likely a couple of things he was alluding to. Neither making you sleazy, imo. Getting the keg back from the bar and selling it to you...(was it ever tapped, full?), but more likely selling you not the freshest keg at more than two months old.

The fact that returned, old kegs are being sold to the public. My comment was not directed at you.

Nothing sleazy on the stores part at all here. CT uses a distributor system to feed liquor stores, so I order from the liquor store and they contact the distributor. The distributor had been out of kegs, but then got the Sea Hag in - my liquor store guy had it brought in, and when he saw the date, called me to tell me it was March 3rd because he knows I'm not interested in buying older kegs. I said no, so he will get it picked up when the distributor comes by again. Actually excellent service IMO. I also get the return from the bar thing - so many places are getting pounded and can't afford to sit on inventory they can't move. Why they waited so long to put it back in distro is another issue.

I get all that. Your last sentence to me is the point. It was an older keg, but good on your beer store guy to be up front with the date info. Some may not get the same luxury in other places and be happy to get a keg for home only to be realize it’s not the freshest. That’s all.

If someone likes IPAs and has kegs at home, they are very in tune to checking expiration. It is a much bigger problem than getting an old 6 pack. BTW I have also returned a keg for off taste (not expiration date problems), and the liquor store / distributor have taken them back, so there is some leniency allowed. That happened once to me in 10 years of kegs.

Naut, every time. Hag hasn't been doing it for me lately. But... Headway>Naut>Hag

Edit: Hoppy Pilsner (Elm City, whatever they're calling it) trumps them all. Love that beer. @Gmr75 , get that out to distro more often!

We started sending kegs of SH back out this week. We've also been working with distributors to eliminate older kegs in the market. I guess a few are still out there. Distributors for the most part have been very responsive with us getting older stock back. When things open back up, we want to make sure people can purchase fresh Hag at bars/restaurants/etc.

@pbrian - New batch of Hoppy Pilsner getting canned this week. Elm City will be returning to the rotation soon as well. Trying hard to always have lager options - including some going to distro as the weather gets nicer.

I’m such a dope, I thought hoppy Pilsner was a new name for Elm City, doh

All great news. I’ll go back to my store for a Sea Hag and Elm City. I need a new line car sticker for the Elm City Tao handle. Hint hint.

Ha, just saw the result of my large thumbs typing while walking. That last sentence should have said a new line card sticker for the Elm City tap handle.

I havent tasted it yet (racking it tomorrow/packaging Friday) but with higher IBUs and a fairly dry finish, I think it may scratch that West Coast IPA itch...
