Not if the beer goes out of date and the retail establishment has to get rid of it back to the distributor. In many cases the distributor and brewery eat that cost 50/50. It can add up.

So then Three Floyds drops pallets on a dozen metro areas to ride out 2020. There's still people trading for Zombie Dust, Gumballhead, etc.

How often does that happen? I have not recently surveyed the dates of grocery store ZD.

Have no idea on the first part about costs but can definitely confirm the second part. Someone posted above about waiting in lines but that just isn't true anymore. As a sporadically consistent visitor, I went from usually having a wait to getting a table anytime. I could go with my family at lunch on a Saturday and get a table on the right side; that never used to happen. Amazing brewpub and the best around in my opinion, will be sad to see it go if true.

only if there is a best-by date, or if the brewery itself has a system where they will take beers back after a certain timeframe of their choosing (Jackie O’s and smaller breweries do this I believe, which encourages rotating their product). I don’t think FFF has anything like
that in place, especially with their now sizeable footprint.

I have never had to send back anything from them in my store. They’re still pretty popular in Ohio, and typically sell before 60 days from bottling in my experience. ZD does turd it up a little, but not as hard as many, many other “old heads”.

If true, I hope it retains the ambiance of the original and doesn't become a large Ikea store like the Goose Island Clybourn AB Total Makeover.

FFF was my favorite overall brewpub to visit among the 100 or so I hit, based on the great staff, music, food and beer. I really hope it reopens within the next year or two.

That’s probably true in Ohio, but I’m 45 minutes from the brewpub.

ZD Has also popped up in places like Tennessee so that helps to thin the herd as well

Just because Gumbalhead and ZD doesn't instantly sell out anymore does not mean they are overall selling less of it. They could be selling much more since it is more available, but since production is up and the hype is down it is more easily found.

Bourbon County sells much more than it used to, but is also shelf-turding it up. Of course production and distribution of it is way up, but just because it isn't flying off the shelves doesn't mean Goose Island is hurting.

Three Floyds is lucky they're in the position, with enough history and share, that they can pivot to a retail only model. I don't know how many
Wasn't that plan shelved in favor of the distillery? I can't see them spending that cash on both within such a short time. Granted, I haven't a clue how much cash on hand they have.

I would imagine that FFF is still a large draw for Munster and FFF knows it. Whatever is going on behind the scenes I would imagine it is just a game of chicken to posture for bigger tax breaks from Munster.

Edit: Or maybe the brewpub re-opens as The Warpigs brewpub....

    they posted an update:

Sounds like the expansion is on hold too. So this isn't just a scheme to close it for the remodel.

The Distillery was built before the expansion plans were announced.

Production on both beers was up significantly last year and those are their two biggest brands. They introduced cans for both beers.

Man, talk about hype, there is currently a two year wait to get a table at the brewpub...and when you call to ask to reserve it the staff is just as dickish as ever.

And it took like 3 years to open from when they built the space. 2011/12 announced they would open a Chicago Brewpub....still waiting. Announced an industrial park expansion to a gigantic upgrade of the space...still waiting two years later. FFF never does anything in a timely manner, it will probably take them 3 years just to close the brewpub.

Channel 5 NBC just reported Nick hopes to re-open pub/distillery in 2021 or 2022.

Who do you think gives the termination news to the brewpub employees? My guess is it is Todd the Axeman.
