I thought I had responded to this thread but I don't think Heady is underrated in the ratings stand point. I don't think the #5 rated beer on BA can be underrated in that sense. However, the number of people who have Heady now and say that they don't love it or that there are other beers they like more has grown considerably. I do think Heady is more overlooked than ever. It is a unique beer, but the main point I want to make is that nobody making a beer like Heady. They're trying to make a TH clone. They're trying to make what used to be a Trillium clone. Heady involves too many hops. Hops that don't necessarily sell like mosaic, citra, galaxy, etc. In that sense, I think it's underrated, but I don't know if that resonates with a lot here.

    Other thoughts:
    • Mayflower Porter is just so solid.
    • I like the Schilling Schlaumeier, but I also think they make some better beers than Schalumeier. I mean, as a brewery, Schilling is overlooked, though I feel like they're getting their due in some circles now.
    • I think that this list really looks at things from the hype overlooked from the hype perspective.

I just went to my list of rated beers and chose the one with the highest positive rDev% which is ReAle from Birra del Borgo, a small Italian brewer. Was a pleasant surprise.

Had their passion fruit peach Berliner and thought it was very tasty. Haven’t had the tart cherry as I am not a big fan of cherries but now I going to give it a try.

This style fits in their North Coast perfectly as it will be clean probably more traditional as opposed to the fruit or sour bombs with lactose that I see a lot of.

Alchemist started distributing in NJ earlier this month so you shouldn't have to drive that far to find it anymore.

I wonder when some 'publication' is going to generate an article entitled:

"A list of the most stupid beer list articles".

    Cheers!

I would certainly agree with London Pride being on the list; however, it is hard to find; packaged in 12 oz. four-packs; it very expensive, and is often well past its prime when you find it on the shelf. As for Sierra Nevada, familiarity breeds contempt - it so prevalent (its found at Wal-Mart), that we sometimes forget what a special beer it is.

Great beer especially on tap. British beer company in MA serves it. I also like Fullers ESB.

Utica club.....was not aware this was still brewed. Need to see if it’s sold here.

Capella is a really good beer. It’s around $5 a bottle here and worth treating myself once in a bit. It’s really good.

    Enjoy

SNPA is a classic, many from the list I have not tryed, but, as usual,
I think heady topper is overrated. I'm just not a fan. Never the same, too sweet.

I’d say perhaps overlooked compared to what’s currently trending or sought after, not so much under rated.
With the exception of la rossa. I do enjoy that beer and tend to unfortunately pass it up. It’s not terribly easy to find either maybe doppelbock as a style is not as sought after again as most other things.

Heady doesn't make sense to be one this list no matter any context. However, I have to believe this list is 15 underrated for the casual beer drinker, as it makes zero sense in the context of craft enthusiast.

SNPA arguably created craft in America, with a few other beers as helpers. Urquell means original source. So how can a style creating beer be underrated. I in fact believe Pilsen Urquell to still be the very beer example of Czech Pils there is and perhaps my favorite beer, not just of this list, but overall. Saison Dupont, is another absolutely amazing beer, one of the very best saisons on the planet.

This list only makes sense for the reader who has minimal exposure to craft, only logic here.

SNPA, North Coast Old Stock, Saison DuPont, and Heady Topper are rated with average scores of 4.05, 4.15, 4.21, 4.76, respectively. Also pretty respectable. I wouldn't call them terribly underrated - they've earned their accolades.

The little local gems scattered throughout the world are the true unsung heroes of underrated beer.
