Was more of a joke about how seemingly every LH employee has the same facial hair. It's like they put Lanigan through a clone machine that spits them out at beer fests.

I can tell you at least one person who won’t wait in line to go to Lord Hobo. Not now, not ever.

Breaking news from Boston, restaurants will be able to increase patio spaces:

    https://www.universalhub.com/2020/boston-restaurants-can-now-get-emergency-approval

Interesting line towards the end which may pave the way for bier gardens & taprooms too.

“The board also voted to rescind a regulation that requires restaurants with alcohol licenses and patios to only serve alcohol outdoors to patrons who also order food. Joyce said that's a relic of past administrations that the current board has never enforced, and will also further help suffering restaurant owners.”

Seriously this should be a no-brainer state-wide as well.

That should be a no-brainer nationwide.

It's summer and people need to distance; toss out every goddamn arcane rule on outdoor seating and drinking there is. All of them. Use every bit of patio, alley, parking lot, grass field or whatever space you can get your hands on. If I need to drink in a parking garage, under an overpass or on the banks of a river, I'll be happy to do just that.

Well the entire nation is certainly adhering to the "no-brains" philosophy the last few months.

Agree, perfect opportunity to shit-can every archaic alcohol rule and start from scratch. Allow open containers outside, expand/loosen license opportunities, let retailers price how they want (86 anti-happy hours), let breweries sell beer however they want.

MA breweries with big patios and full kitchens seem like they will be the most successful in having people drinking there soon. Cambridge brewing, trillium fort point, the tap in Haverhill, Northampton brewing. I’m sure there are several others.

Mystic would have been REALLY screwed being in Chelsea, with no restaurant, and zero patio...

Add those factors to the current rate of COVID infection in Chelsea. Chelsea has the highest rate of infection in the entire state by far. It’s crazy how bad they’ve been hit—almost double the rate of Brockton, the town with the second-highest rate.

I couldn't help but imagine the scenario where Mystic gritted their teeth and decided they were going to somehow push through whatever their hardships were and stay open......

.... only to have COVID hit just a few months later.

Their presumably very tough decision to close the doors probably feels like a relief at this point.

Oh absolutely, I worded that wrong. That's what I meant by "Mystic would have been REALLY screwed being in Chelsea"...full stop.

Their brewery would have effectively been one giant New England IPA and COVID-19 petri dish.

Hopped the NH border yesterday and visited a few taprooms for the 1st time since the lockdown (From the Barrel & Rockingham in Derry). Both places have small patios and a simple system: Go inside to order a beer (masked) then bring outside to your table/chair which are disinfected between visitors. Felt good to be back out there, and the process was pretty simple. No reason at all that this can't be copied in Massachusetts, with maybe the exception of Boston and Camberville.

Stopped into a brewery yesterday and asked the owner if he knew phase 2 or 3. He said they're all pushing for food trucks to be counted as a kitchen to be included in phase 2. And noted the trucks were already lined up and ready to go. Cape Cod Beer posted on FB yesterday that they're planning to open their beer garden on June 9th (pending the governor). So, seems like phase 2 is being planned for.

I agree but I think those who object will point out the higher infection rates of covid here, especially in eastern MA. But I agree with you—even Rhode Island has partially opened for outdoor food and beverage. They have had high rates of covid too. Seems like proper precautions are the key. If we have them, we should be good.

They have, but it appears CT and MA are being more cautious with opening. Their death rates per capita are 107 and 96 respectively. RI is 64.

And then there's areas like Somerville, which is the most densely populated city in MA. We've also been the most conservative with our opening.

Obviously what places open will depend on their location, population density, and cases/deaths per capita.
