Dun Dun Dun, Circumpolar and a new one called Deep Rinse drops next week. Deep Rinse calls itself a “Cold India Pale Ale”. Perplexed am I.

Is this like Maplewood/Saint Errant’s “Steamless in Chicago”?

What the hell is a "cold" IPA?

One that when it gets warm has terrible flaws that make it undrinkable?

I would assume cold crashed. Wherein a lot of the floaty hop matter crashes to the bottom of the fermenter after rapid cooling. I.E. Clear beer.

    Maybe.

No it was brewed "cold", and fermented "cold". Cold being a relative term. Probably like 68 degrees or so.

EDIT: As was mentioned previously Maplewood and Saint Errant did this....

"A collaboration with our friends St. Errant Brewing couldn't be normal, so unlike almost all traditional beer, this DIPA is not boiled prior to fermentation. This allows for more proteins to reach the final beer, which results in ax extra lush and silky mouthfeel. Double dry-hopped with Citra cryo, Mosaic cryo, Amarillo cryo, and some Galaxy for good measure, expect huge tropical and citrusy hop flavor and aroma. HUUUGE!!"

So my liquor store apparently didn't get this with their drop today.

If we’re going to be having Hop Butcher sell out more frequently, I’m going to be a sad man. I liked not having to put in effort...

It tasted like a bitter, west coast-piney IPA. Certainly solid but if you have FOMO I assure you that you’d be happier with Dun Dun Dun

It was like dank west coast ipa meets german Pilsner. I dig it

But...that songs like exactly what I would have enjoyed. Damn them not sending any to my Binny’s. Dun Dun Dun is one one my favorites from HB though, so I’m happy to have that one again.

Should have said mostly west coast ipa. But you do get some German hops interplay in the second half

1- It's partly because of Covid-19 drinking bump- new beer is the only excitement some of us can have indoors
2-I think they may have increased distro or perhaps they are doing splash drops in places like NYC.
3-Some batches are just small. I had no trouble finding most of their beer on release day or sometimes the day after. It wasn't truck chasing or timing releases, it was just going in sometime between after work and 8pm on Thusdays. That being said, I can't remember the name of the beer, maybe it was a HB collab, but I too have been stunned when I go on release day only to find the HB product was gone and usually I'm told by the store it was a small batch and they didn't get much of it.

Yeah, it makes sense and normally notice it with their newer or different releases (interesting milkshakes or W coast-ish IPAs). I'm rarely let down by those that are still on the shelves the next few days so I shouldn't fuss too much.

I really enjoyed and preferred Dese Dem Dose and agree with you on generally liking their clearer beers
