Sadly, stout month has come to an end. Some highlights for posterity.
Outsiders by Outer Range was fantastic. Burr was also really good. I hope ORB continues making enough stouts (collab or not) to keep one or 2 on tap in the tasting room through winter.
Enjoyed the balanced, Mexican chocolate-type flavors from Scoville stout by Crooked Stave. The other 2 I tried from them (marshmallow/blueberry) were overly sweet and less balanced I thought.
The Denominations of Origin series from New Image has been excellent. Would be cool to do a side by side with all of them to pick out the subtle/not so subtle differences in the coffee. Very solid base beer.
Casey has put out a few stouts, all of which I've enjoyed. I liked Stout Tribe more than Synthetic Substitution, realize they were both collabs. The more recent Vanilla Americano is easier drinking, 1/2 the abv. worth a try.

I wholeheartedly agree that the Denominations of Origin series has been fantastic, but only one (Brazil) featured coffee. Papua New Guinea featured vanilla beans and Ecuador featured cacao nibs and (Tahitian) vanilla beans. Personally, The Brazilian coffee version was my favorite.

Good call, I think I was hung up on the word origin thinking coffee beans. Cheers!

REFRESH Feed: Outer Range's Black Denim Stout (5.8%) is fantastic.
Roast, impression of coffee (but I don't think has coffee), just awesome to my taste. Prefer it to Zonker stout right now.

    That’s quite the endorsement!
Guessing it’s at least 50% more expensive though... hard to beat a 6er for $10 of Zonker imo

Yeah, if I was drinking more than one stout a day, that would definitely be a consideration.
Zonker is such a good value. Even if I like Malpais (Cumbre) better by a bit. But the more ORB I drink, the more I appreciate their NON-IPA offerings. Cheers.

I went looking for a non-BA, non-adjunct stout the other day. It's a pretty sparse market these days. Outside of LH Milk Stout I don't even know of a ubiquitous example from Colorado anymore. I was hoping for a local alternative to Kalamazoo, but I don't think there is one. At least a readily available example.

Some CO brewery needs to get on the affordable 6-pack, non-adjunct, non-barrel aged, lower than 9% stout game. Luckily, LH's milk stout is still delicious and I like Finkel's oatmeal stout, but it's a little sweet for me. I'm kind of surprised Dry Dock or someone doesn't just package one in the fall and winter. Simple, classic, roasty. A brewery that knocks out excellent, classic styles like DD should fill this niche. I have to imagine that stouts like this are still fairly popular.

Not Colorado and I am not much of a fan of it, but La Cumbre's Malpais Stout should be available.

Malpais is a good beer for an export stout, but that's actually a style I don't love. It's a little sweet and unbalanced for my tastes. Maybe if it was dry hopped I'd be a fan. As-is, I don't really love it or most others.

Sadly, I don't think American stouts are all that popular. The folks I've talked to about 'em say that they just don't sell. Ditto with their cousin, BIPA/CDA or whatever you wanna call it. Sierra Nevada Stout, the grandfather of the style, doesn't see distro in most/any mature beer markets.
IMO, the best opportunity comes from Great Divide. Yeti is just an imperial version of that style. They've made "Baby Yeti" in the past, which is almost exactly what I'm looking for.

I'm not from CO but if I needed to think of non-BA stout ubiquitous to CO the answer is going to be Ten Fidy. It is pretty much always available here so I just assumed the same was true in CO.

Maybe it is old stock but the old 4-pack 12oz Ten Fidy is still all over the shelves here along with the BA stovepipes. IIRC Ten Fidy isn't even dated although maybe I am misremembering or they changed that?

What?? Is that why I'm not seeing it for such a long time?? Big mistake if that's true.

Looking at their website and it looks like Regular Ten Fidy remains, listed and pictured right next to the Barrel Aged Version.

@Bitterbill, you might not be seeing it around because it is seasonal?

2019 has a ton of reviews on Untappd and according to the Oskar Blues site the 2020 version is coming in September:

I can think of two stores off the top of my head I could grab a 4-pack right now. Distro must be uneven or they are just shelfturding in my area

They've been dated as long as I can remember along with catch phrases.

I haven't seen regular fidy anywhere for 2 years. Apparently I am shopping at the wrong places.

Similar to my experience, but this year only. I was unable to find any regular. Granted I generally only visit two different stores so not like I hunt anything down.

The ‘Stout’ at Stodgy Brewing is about 8% and absolutely incredible... great roast and semi sweet chocolate action with a subtle coffee note. I’d quite literally bathe in it if it were more socially acceptable in this area.

Overall- Stodgy is a great addition to the beer scene here in Fort Collins... also had their hazy boi, which was definitely nailed. My babe had the Gose which she loved and I thought was a solid, traditional example of the style (though no one should look to me for an informed take on the style)... she also had the Wit and that was quite satisfying too. Outside of hitting the ground running beer quality wise, the space is really cool and they are immediately finding themselves at the top of the pile around here for outdoor seating. Really excited to see what these guys do going forward!

Koffee Kream Extra returns today at Comrade Brewing. It used to be a year-round, but now a one time a year winter seasonal. A milk stout with a custom blend of coffee from Kaladi Coffee Roasters
