So with this brave new world we’re currently living in, I thought I’d start a thread that discusses experiences (both good and bad) at Chicagoland beer venues with outdoor spaces, since that’s currently the only way to go out and have a beer.

My family went to the new Une Annee/Hubbards Cave in Niles last night. First, their beer was great as usual. I’ve always appreciated how well they do every style they make (hazy IPAs, pastry stouts, wild ales and even Belgian styles). Their new location also serves BBQ and it’s really good. And not just “good for a brewery” good. We’ve had it twice now and I can especially recommend the brisket and the brisket burnt ends. The spicy pickles are a nice touch too.

The patio is actually a field of freshly laid sod with picnic tables spaced 10 feet apart. I don’t see the grass lasting long with heavy foot traffic and moving the tables to cut the grass every time is gonna be a pain. But it looks great right now.

As far as the ordering goes, it’s still a bit clunky. At least for me it was. The idea is great though.

    1. You reserve a table, which was easy.
    2. Once there all orders (food and beer) are also ordered online in order to maintain a contactless experience. This is the part with a few bugs that needs some massaging. I’m sure they’ll work out the kinks.
Overall the experience was great. The weather was great. Food was great. And it was awesome to go somewhere besides my house to have a beer.

    1. Does it have a wi-fi network that I would be able to connect to on a laptop computer?
    2. Do I have to access its F***book page in order to order? Because this brewpub is fairly high on my list of venues to hit once this Covid-19 pandemic is deemed 'manageable'.:stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Obviously feel more confident visiting actual breweries as I'm cautious of the potential freshness of hoppy kegs at restaurants as they start to reopen. Like that keg of citra hopped Midwest pale ale that's approaching 12 weeks old now. Which is why I was especially happy to see Dovetail Lager on at Parlor Wicker Park last weekend.

Giving Park & Field in Logan a whirl this weekend.

Two Brothers Roundhouse in Aurora has a great patio, food was awesome, beer was as average as ever, had a great time.

While I enjoy Park & Field’s patio, if the freshness of beer is of concern to you, they might not be the best option. It was always questionable there, pre-COVID, as a good portion of their clientele don’t drink craft beer.

Good info, thanks. The logistics of reopening at a limited capacity is fascinating to me. Freshness, number of options, price points, expectations, etc.

One Allegiance in Chicago Ridge. 2 patios, front for 21 and over, back one for dogs and kids. 16 beers on tap, a few cocktails, cider and wine, various food trucks. Great place and atmosphere.

I can only vouch for Dryhop/Roebuck. 5 tables inside 3 tables outside. It was all very safe and spread out. That was Saturday and I don't believe I have contracted COVID-19. Two thumbs up.

Great job by Pollyannaa (Roselle). Stopped by with the family last night and felt extremely safe. Tables have huge gaps, some as much as twenty feet. Great atmosphere and beers were great as always. The revolution collab Luao (Hopfenweiss style) is delicious, picked up a four pack.

Thanks, my husband saw that in an FB beer page several months ago. We decided to check it out when they opened. We've actually been there several times to pick up beer. We were there 2 weeks ago in the beer garden. No issue, no problem, very friendly and we did a beer trade with one of the girls that works there. I like beer and trying new places... oh and I'm Mexican. I guess if that was really their motto then we'd have gotten crappy service or maybe not since it's money in their pocket. Maybe I'll see you there, the 1st one is on me.

    Cheers!

Good to hear. Hopefully it was just poor wording on their part.

I’d still pass. Just because they may have “wised up” and realized putting those comments out there would hurt their business so they deleted them doesn’t make it better. And just because people visit and have a good beer or two on a nice patio with a friendly server doesn’t change those words or the beliefs that are implied by them. I wouldn’t visit until I had a much better explanation.

(I also just read the initial thread for the first time tonight so I may be biased based on how fresh it is in my mind)

Was the staff wearing masks and if so, were they the kind that covers the nose and mouth or the kind that goes over the whole head with two holes for eyes?
