Have a good Friday. Have been up watching Rick and Morty and listening to music all night. Been a good week I'd say.

New Belgium Voodoo Ranger 1985 IPA. Excellent NEIPA. Opaquely hazy. Lasting rocky head retention/thick foamy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big lightly tart/tangy mangoes, melon, tangerine, orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, light honey/toasted malts; and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Mild pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness; and fruit tang/tartness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; very creamy/bready/grainy malts, some sticky hops, and light resins/rinds in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing lingering bitter dryness; no hop astringency. Very smooth/soft, minimal warming 6.7% or lingering hop burn after the finish. Great Citra, Simcoe, Cascade profile. Very juicy/vibrant hops/fruit with light dank/earthy notes; with a nice sized wheat/oat/malt backbone. Mild residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. No complaints as expected. Love the VR series.

So today is going to be the hottest Midsummer's Eve in 50 years. Grrreeeaaat... I've had one shower already, looking forward to at least two more. Catching up on my reviews, drinking some IPA, and listening to golden oldies.

After two months and an epic road trip through North Carolina, Florida, Texas, Illinois, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden, my BA Gear box FINALLY arrived. Christening the new glass with Mango Waterbeach Weisse by Pastore. Fitting beer on a hot ass day.

Dark beers are sometimes light and refreshing. Here is a perfect example, Metropolitan Brewing's Magnetron Schwarzbier Lager. This clocks in at 5.5%, light on its toes but packs a lot of flavor, a great way to start the day!

It is most definitely a perfect Summer morning, can't beat 69 degrees and sunny any time of year.

Check with me later today as the temps are supposed to break 90, though thankfully without much humidity (under 40%) which works for me.

An ambitious me wants to hit one of the 14 breweries opened in Chicago, may stay indoors at home instead and wait for slightly cooler temps next week. I'll check back later either out and about, or cowering indoors waiting for the evening.

Hope you all have perfect beers today!

Short's Hopricot Sour. Excellent kettle sour. Great lasting fluffy head retention/foamy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big juicy/tart/tangy apricots, fruit fuzz/skin/pits, lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, guava, berries, citrus peel/zest, peppercorn, pine hops; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bready malts; hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, light lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tartness, fruit tang; and light herbal/grassy bitter/spiciness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation, light-medium body, and fairly crisp/clean finishing. Balanced bready/grainy malts, lactic acid, fruit tang/tannins, and light sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing acidic/tangy dryness; no pucker/astringency. Very refreshing, not overly lactic, zero warming 6.8%. This is one of their better ones. Getting just a hair of Brett funk, but it might be the hops. Sourness is super CLEAN. Damn I'm glad I got the 6 pack for sure. Took me 5 months to get to it but sours don't care.

Good day BAs! Off to a decently warm start today - we got enough rain overnight to wet the road where tree leaves didn't interfere. Good thing I watered the garden yesterday. So far this year we've had two different black rat snakes visit - both sleek, fat, and happy. Mrs. Lizard protests their presence but I welcome them - they go where the food is and if they're here, then that means they're eating rodents that live in the yard and garden. Now if they were eastern diamondbacks or dwarf rattlers, then I'd be a bit less enthusiastic. Anyway, today's New Breakfast Beer:

Pretty much an AAL but with a pleasing label - artist's conception of horchata container.

That picture is the epitome of an American neighborhood, at least to us Europeans!

Damn, BA, feeling the beer today. I have to admit, I bought this beer solely for the label. The beer is pretty damn sweet, though. Score!

Thanks, it's not a typical Chicago street / neighborhood. Our lots are bigger and we are not on the city street grid. My neighborhood, Norwood Park, was one of the last neighborhoods annexed into the city in 1893, or over 20 years before anyone from my family on either side immigrated to Chicago / the United States.

The closest brewery is easy walking distance, Une Annee / Hubbard's Cave, since they moved to their new space. Sadly for them, it closed within days of the opening due to the statewide Rona lockdown, but they are still selling and shipping beers.

Sadly for Ozzylizard, the yellow house to the right is for sale but not the brick one. I'll let you know if it is listed in the future.

    Cheers!

The beer was also one of the best Sabro showcases I've had. I have to try more by these crazy Russkies!

#4 is Common Rave, by very local brewery Elmeleven. It’s a Berliner with raspberries, passionfruit and vanilla, and it’s excellent.

All caught up on reviews, I’m now watching one of my all-time favorite shows:

    I slept in this morning...dogs walked/fed, kitchen cleaned...coffee time - CBS:

Bottled 10/3/19. Poured at 57°. Plenty of coffee left, but sticky sweet maple is center stage. Love the 12oz format.

If the rain passes us by, I’ll move the RV into the driveway and finish cleaning/prepping it for our first road trip this summer. Nothing exciting, a day’s drive to SC to visit sister-in-law, then a day’s drive to visit my brother in WV. I Doubt we will be able to do much of anything in between, but it will do Mrs. Z good to get out of the house. Have a fantastic Friday y’all!
