My controversial opinion today is directed at those people who complain about the large amounts of crap beer styles they see and the large amount of people who drink them. Let me ask those people if they realize...

...that if those people suddenly stopped drinking that beer you hate, and instead started drinking the beer you love, you might have to start waiting on line for the beer you love and paying twice as much for it?

So my opinion is careful what you wish for.

There's a strange brew fest in eureka, ca as well. I wonder how many of those.there are nationwide? Lots of bad tummy feelings after that event. I have oddly fond memories of an "astronaut IPA" made with tang powder, and that was back before ipas were.actively trying to taste like fruit

I think that sinks the standard to a new 'low' for the definition of an adjunct/add-junk

Nope. All that tank and package space would be filled with other beer, which would meet demand. One could casually stroll in and grab the beer.

    No hype = no lines.

So...if folks who like the beer you presently hate stop drinking the beer you presently hate, they will switch to a different beer that you'll also hate?

But what if that style doesn't lend itself to those cool, edgy names you guys use to make fun of the people who drink it?

Regarding dating of beer: I am perfectly fine with Julian YDDD or YYDDD. Anything is better than nothing.

Because doing math in your head is controversial.

Doing math is not the issue with "Julian" date codes. Note the word "code".

As annoying as the hazebros are, the "I hate IPAs, they all taste the same and cover up the brewer's lack of skill," lagerbros are easily ten times more annoying. We get it, you're too cool to like things other people like. You people are reaching the level of insufferability I previously thought only coffee snobs could achieve. Congrats?

In their defense, when it stopped being cool to say that Big Beer was the Devil, and when it no longer was a thing to build macho cred by drinking super bitter WCIPA , they had to find some way to virtue signal their OG status and ability to rise above the petty enjoyments of the new to the hobby crowd.

Damn, I missed that memo. I hope it's still cool to say "AB-InBev can go fornicate themselves with a broom handle."

Breweries aren't going to stop brewing. Something will go into those tanks, kegs, cans, and bottles. I won't know if I'll hate a beer or style until I try it.

And, an idiotic name can be applied to any product.

Actually I'm the wrong guy to ask. It stopped being a thing for me around the time when Sam Adams/BBC was caught in that huge pay to play tap handle scandal, so I've been out of the loop

This is turning into a contest of who can be the snarkiest wrapped in self-important condescension.

    Nice going.

    OK, I’ll bite.
Oktoberfest/Marzen can be brewed or drunk year round. Why? Because it’s 2020 and we’ve mastered temperature control.

It’s so crazy that Cantillon used to collect dust on the shelves.

Sounds more like they took it a down a notch.

I don’t necessarily agree with this. I have the choice between TONS of New England IPAs. It’s just the select few limited release hyped ones that people line up for.

If all of a sudden Pilsner became the hot style, I’d have far more to choose from (not that I don’t right now anyways, it was just an example).

I get it, and I can honestly lean that way myself. But I dig and often buy New England IPAs and lagers. I even “chase” some New England IPAs.

I also don’t think the “cover up the flaws” thing really applies to New England IPAs. That was more of a super bitter West Coast IPA thing. I think New England IPAs are a harder style to brew.

That being said, some highly acclaimed brewers love lagers more than IPAs, and simply brew IPAs because they boost sales. But I also don’t think they’re snobby about it.
