Seal Beach Beachwood is closing for good...The end of an era:

    "
This is not easy. This decision has weighed heavy on us for over 100+ days. But in accepting the uncertainty of our current situation and accessing what is likely a challenging time ahead, we have made the unbearable decision not to reopen Beachwood Seal Beach.

We are unfortunately unable to operate as normal, it seems impossible to welcome customers back to our small space with the health and safety concerns that continue to loom large, it would be a disservice to us all to try and make a go of what is inevitability a no win situation.
14 years ago, before we knew the impact that the word and meaning behind ‘craft’ would have in our lives, we set out to build a restaurant that provided the best food, the best drink, the best service and didn’t come with any of the pretense. Along the way we built a community where sharing food and conversation with the table next to you, where opening bottles of rare beer and talking about super conducting rocks spinning in liquid nitrogen was more normal than not.

Lena and I want thank you for your support over the years, for trusting us to create food that stretched beyond your comfort zones, for talking endlessly behind the bar as we all explored new flavors and beer profiles, for growing with us as we expanded our businesses and our family.

Beachwood Seal Beach turned strangers into friends, employees into craft beer professionals and experts, first dates into marriages, newlyweds into parents, naysayers into enthusiasts.
We are endlessly grateful, emotionally drained but forever changed by this tiny seaside restaurant that grew into something we could have never imagined. Thank you so much friends for 14 years. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your lives, growing families, and most of all for helping us create a community when we all needed one the most. This is obviously not farewell, we’re still around and we’ll continue to grow. We are leaving Seal Beach with our heads held high, with an enormous amount of love and lasting memories.
With endless love and gratitude, Gabe and Lena."

Sad day for the craft beer industry in here in SoCal. 13 years ago I stepped foot inside Gabe's & Lenas BW BBQ and learned a lot about craft beer and great BBQ. I will miss this place. RIP Beachwood BBQ. Damn.

This. I remember "way back when" just chattin' at the bar with Gabe and whomever else was sitting around. Just shootin' the shit about beer and the industry in general. Bummed.

Very sad to see Seal Beach closing down. Attended many wonderful events there and shared bottles with countless strangers and friends alike.

Today is a sad day, indeed. This place helped found and shape my love of craft beer. So many good memories here between the events, meals, and drinks shared with friends. Thanks for the memories gabe and lena!

Yeah this one hurts. Even though I frequent BWLB more, it's mostly because of location. I, like many of you, have countless stories of bottleshares, epic SourFests, Zwanze, and just chatting with Gabe and others behind the bar. The food was better and the atmosphere was better at Seal Beachwood. It will definitely be missed

Absolutely sucks. Had many, many great beers at Seal Beachwood back in the day. Going to truly miss that location.

Know a lot of peeps either from just being a regular or a few of the informal meetups from either here on BA or other avenues and it will be sorely missed.

One can only dream that it stays vacant and they revisit down the road (maybe like how Alpine did it)...

Damn, only been once but it was an obviously special spot. Delivered everything I ever want out of a taproom and more. Felt more welcome as a solo stranger there than any other LA/oc taproom I've ever visited

I will definitely miss them. They were my introduction to the awesome variety of craft beer. Hopefully Pliny the Younger and Sour Beer Week will still be available in Long Beach.

How many Friday's did we occupy that corner by the front door and share amazing beers. Time marches on, for better and for worst. We still have LB and HB though.

    Cheers,

More news coming out of BW's Long Beach location.
UPDATE: Our Long Beach location is temporarily closed for dine in and to go.

We were notified ‪on Tuesday morning‬ that one of our Long Beach employees tested positive for COVID-19. The employee was last onsite Thursday, June 25th. This employee followed all safety and compliancy measures during their shift, showed no symptoms, and did not have a temperature. It is our understanding that the employee contracted the virus from a family member.

Out of an abundance of caution we... organized a mobile testing unit for all of our other employees to get tested yesterday. Thankfully all tests came back negative which only reinforces our efforts implementing and adhering to the COVID safety measures we have put into action as a team.

Based on the CDC recommendation of two consecutive negative tests, we will be re-testing all employees one more time before we reopen, but due to the holiday weekend and lack of accessible testing, we do not plan on re-opening our Long Beach location again till next week.

Thank you for your continued support.
