Coconut and lactose have no place in beer.

Shaun Hill - using the same sword his great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, (about 25 more greats) grandfather Albert used when invading England in 1066 - taps the kneeling beer geek on the left shoulder, the right, and then back on the left.

Never consider buying Samuel Adams or Dogfish, tried several over the years but never made a repeat purchase.

Beer sales accounts for 13% of Boston "Beer" Company's sales over the past four weeks. Wonder if Kings & Convicts will scoop these brands up for pennies on the dollar as well.

As tweeted by Josh Noel, Chicago Tribune Beer Reporter

    As reported by @BeerInsights
    Boston Beer’s $$ sales for a recent 4-week period:
    52%
    Truly hard seltzer
    24% Twisted Tea
    11% Angry Orchard
    11% Sam Adams and
    2% "Other" (including Dogfish Head)

Yeah, but a large factor in that is the unique circumstance of bar and restaurant closures in many states due to the pandemic - something Koch and other BBC execs were already addressing in their 2020 First Quarter Results statement back in April:
Not sure I've ever seen BBC's beer on-premise/off-premise percentages, but they are likely a lot more dependent on draught / on-premise sales than the macro brewers and the B.A. has noted that "Craft" in general has a larger percentage of draught beer sales vs packaged (both at breweries and bars/restaurants) than the industry in general.

Samuel Adams beer bales has been declining before COVID. The new environment has only accelerated the decline. Quotes below are from their Q4 2019 press release.

    Q4 2019 BBC Earnings Statement

"Legacy Brands" Include Truly and Twisted Tea, which grew far more than 19%, offset by declining sales for Angry Orchard and Sam Adams beers.

These are the stated priorities for 2020 as stated on February 19, 2020. Samuel Adams is not among their top priorities.

They do want to stop the bleeding for their market leading hard cider...

Their lone beer statements includes no metrics, giving vague reference they "remain confident" to "position Samuel Adams beer" for "long-term sustainable growth" in a climate where the beer continues to lose sales.

Lone statement in the press release related to the actual beer beyond references to declining sales of said beer.

Yup, BBC's "beer" barrelage as counted by The Brewers Association peaked in 2014 at 2.55M bbl, and it's been downhill ever since - and a frequent topic around the forums here, since at one time the B.A.'s "Craft" definition stated that a "Traditional" brewer's production "... has at least 50% of it’s volume in either all malt beers or in beers which use adjuncts to enhance rather than lighten flavor," And BBC was getting close to falling below that percentage. Of course, the B.A. came to their rescue (again), so now it's just:

I'd say the question becomes will they bounce back - but that's only one of many questions about the current on-premise beer segment and general "craft" market. Kinda in unprecedented territory to say the least...

I'd imagine Sam Adams moves a lot of volume at big events too. I'm sure they're often the crafty option at large stadiums and the like

Good point. They're "The Official Beer of the Red Sox" so that's about 40 home games worth of beer for 40K people they've missed out on right there.

Where’d you get the 40 home games number from? Don’t you mean 81?

Well, they're going to miss out on 51 home games. It's going to be a 60 game season, if they end up playing at all.

I figure we're about half way through what would have been the season right now. Wasn't meaning to speak to the totality of what they'll end up missing this year.

So, fans are just going to have follow the "We're all in this together" motto and drink 2.5 times as much beer!

Except, they'll have to do it at home. As of now, the plan calls for no fans at the games. But, the owners are greedy fucks, and I wouldn't put it past them to open the gates, no matter the risk.

Fuuuuuck Hill Farmstead (and the rest of those "hype" breweries out there). Never had, no desire to, and if you put one in front of me, I'd reject just to piss off the die hard snobs
