DL De Muerte? They are always one of my favorites. The first batch however (I believe 2012?) was way too spicy, even for my liking. Every other batch has been excellent imo.

I have not done this, but it's a solid idea! I did braise a corn beef with a cuvee of regular a few months back.

Yeah. I didn't really think they tasted spicy, just that super uniquely savory, roasted peppers in that almost tomato saucy chipotle-like spice (the adobo sauce, not the restaurant). It's a very unique characteristic not found elsewhere or really not even possible to make at home. I've had several bourbon versions, as well as the cognac version. It's crazily similar to the point where I'm convinced they simply pour the one brand in the tiny can straight into the beer lol.

Personally, I thought they really missed the opportunity to call these variants Bloody Mary...hahaha.

I'd love a true mole inspired or Mexican stout inspired Dark Lord, but these are just too forward on the roasted pepper flavor, with not much else that comes through, for me.

I'm not sure where to put this, if at all, just wondering if anyone picking up on the 19th has an odd variant they are specifically hoping for, and wants to stay in touch for potentially a straight variant swap then and there.

Interesting, I’ll have to pay attention to that flavor note next time I get to try one. I love chipotles in adobo, but don’t recall getting that tomato-like note. I do agree that the pepper dominating, but I enjoy that.

And while I agree on a Mole DL, part of me believes it may be too many extra adjuncts (on top of he base adjuncts) to be successful. But I’d love to be the judge.

Randomly, if you can find the Firestone Walker Mole Merkin floating around, it was great!

Yeah, I’ve seen it at my local Binny’s, just haven’t pulled the trigger. I love Merkin, so I should.

Muerte uses guajillo and is definitely one of my favorites. I loved how easy it was to trade for since it was disliked by so many.

$30 or $40 drain pour for me. Pure green pepper horrible.

That sucks! I can see how people are upset if that's the experience.

I had it at a share, maybe 3-4 months after that DLD, and although it was overly sweet for my liking I didn't get any green pepper (and I'm pretty sensitive to that flavor in coffee stouts). Anyway, green pepper or no, that bottle finished in 'last place' during that share.

You referring to FVM or Conquistador de Muerte? Would be concerned if you didn't get any pepper in a Muerte... :astonished::stuck_out_tongue:

Didn't they give out $75 dollar refunds for those bottles? Even if you'd already consumed it?

I don’t recall how much it was, but they were definitely giving out gift cards in significant amounts as refunds.
