Thanks. But yeah, I’ll hold out hope we see some fresh ones soon.

Haha. Yeah these have been "cellared" at room temperature for the last year or two. But I think they wipe the bottles once in a while.

Anyone else open a 2018 Rohrwerker lately? Collab between Pipeworks and Local Option. I opened it tonight as I continue trying to drink through old beers and this bottle was way past its prime. No carb, fruity, funky aroma, just not at all what I expect from a BBA barleywine. I saw others on Untappd enjoying it, and only one report since 2020 of someone with the same issue as me, so probably a bottle issue. Been in my basement since purchase (60 degrees in the summer, 55 in the winter, love my old house), and moved to fridge a few months ago.

Anyway, just putting it out there, if you have one, I'd recommend opening it sooner rather than later. I don't see it getting better with more time.

ok, I haven’t had this yet, but if I don’t drink it this weekend, I’ll drink it next weekend.

instead, I went with 2017 cherry abduction. I can’t remember how this drank fresh, and I’m still waiting for the evening heat to bring this to an even higher-than-room temperature, but it is still drink mighty fine. Very neat trick on the palate - initial taste had me thinking “oh, this is almost the same as the 2017 abduction I had recently. Nice, aged BA Stout, with the adjuncts all-but-gone.” And then, oh, wait, that sweetness note, that isn’t just the bourbon, there is some dried cherry coming through. Okay, and what’s this, the sweetness evaporates and I’m left with dark dark baker’s chocolate in the aftertaste for dayyyyyys.

it’s also funny, because I think if you had a small pour of this at a big share, you’d shrug. None of that crazy sweetness that the kids clamor for these days. Instead, burly, coarse flavors, challenged by time...

<a large coyote just walked down the street near me and I prepared to fight it, but it just gave me a toothy grin and loped off>

    ...still stand strong and honest.

happy almost Fourth of July. Here’s a glass raised high to hopes for a better, more just, more verdant, more wise, more healthy, more honorable, more scientific, more happy, more empathetic, and more loving America. Cheers.

You've inspired me to put my BA Cherry Abduction in the fridge for tomorrow.

did you pop the..... top off of your beer and drink it?
Or like Liam Neesom’s daughter, were you.... abducted?
Or are you just dealing with the fallout of a big bomber? High ABV is nothing to tr..... ifle with.

I don’t even know what I’m trying to do here.

that last sentence is a universal, only vaguely related to this post/forum/beer.

By the way, Chasing Extra is excellent with a unique hop profile. It's been a while since Pipeworks released some good juice of this caliber.

    Yes!

No! But if I was, no one would've noticed because of all the fireworks last night. That shit was nuts!

Yessssss. So it was staring at me all day. Everytime I opened the fridge. Mocking me. Eventually I got a moment to pop it in between amateur fireworks time with the neighbor and getting the baby asleep. Poured 10 oz, corked the rest for another day. Well, another day was 3 hours later after everyone was asleep and I decided I was going to stay up and watch the Eric Andre stand up special on Netflix.

Anywho, The Cherry Abduction has stood the test of time incredibly well. You are 100% correct that on the nose it presents like regular The Abduction. The cherry was fairly nuanced, which I was thankful for. All your other tasting notes were spot on too. Except the coyote part. Probably because I didn't take peyote last night. For me, this was the best BA cherry stout I've had the pleasure of drinking. Usually not a huge fan of cherries in my stouts either, but this was really great. Makes me wish for the resurgence of the PW barrel program.

popped this around a socially distant campfire this weekend. It was a rich, caramel, sweet, thick and smoooooooth treat. People seemed to like it a lot.

I really enjoy Rohrwerker and appreciate that it stuck around in the Dojo for quite a long time. That said, I have had two bottles (out of roughly a case) that, after some ageing, developed more of a buttery note associated with higher diacetyl. They were still enjoyable for me, but they were not representative of what I'd come to expect from that beer.

Out of curiosity, does anyone from Pipeworks on here still chime into this discussion thread? I'm curious as to what (if any) updates there are on the BA program at Pipeworks. I opened all of my 2017 Barrel Aged beers over the past few months and they've been delicious. I was reminded how much I loved the barrel program and how different it is than the others in the area. Once they had the infection issues, it seems like it's been radio silence on future barrel aged releases. I would love some new Barrel Aged Jones Dog/Hyper Dog/etc.

I took initiative and emailed Pipeworks.

No big reveals, but they confirmed that the barrel aged program is still active and that maybe we’d see some soon.... in CANS!

Also seems that the brewpub is in a bit of limbo / delayed because of the pandemic.

Thanks for reaching out! As long as the beers are back to what they were, I will be happy. I didn't/don't mind the pipeworks sized bombers. It's the giant ones that are tough to get through for one person.

I think a lot of us speculated that they were taking a serious look at their barrel program after the infection and that there was going to be a delay in coming out with new barrel aged beers. With whatever QC they added there could have been beer that just got tossed. That combined with the brewpub could have added to that delay on top of that.

What are the giant ones? Aren't PW bombers 22 ounces? I know some places do 750ml, but those are just a few more ounces, and after I've had 22 oz, not sure a few more matters!
