You miss the point... While I can obviously say I’m not interested, I can’t stop someone from asking. Hence the pet peeve.

Oh is that what your were getting.

A potential expansion could be one less trade to complete

Not to sound rude, but... is it really that annoying to simply be asked if you'd like to expand a trade? If that is a 6/10 on the annoyance scale, then packing peanuts have to be like 550/10.

Quite frankly asking if you want to expand has been good for me. Packing peanuts is a 10000 out of 10 annoyance.

Yes. People don’t ask unless they are interested, and you either have to disappoint them and potentially miss out on the main trade, or double your shipping charge and quadruple your packing time so we can exchange a bunch of extra crap you don’t care about.

Do packing peanuts really bother people? If someone packs the beer well enough to make it to me safely, I really don’t care if they use packing peanuts. That is such a minor annoyance I can’t imagine it bothering anyone. Considering how bad some of the packaging I’ve seen is, packing peanuts are the least of my concerns.

I find packing peanuts super annoying. If there is room for packing peanuts you either have too large a box, too little beer, or not enough bubble wrap.

I'm sure nobody who has the audacity to annoyingly ask you whether you want to expand the trade is that disappointed to get turned down lol.

And yes, peanuts are annoying. I'm guilty of sending them, but only to rid my own basement of them.

I mean wouldn't you double your shipping charges with two separate trades?

The idea that getting more beer you want in a trade...seems...I dunno...Good?

Yes, but in two separate trades, it would be all beer I wanted. Instead of the beer I wanted, and the beer we expanded for.

The problem is when you don't want the beer. Beer comes in faster than it goes out, and my collection is too large. I don’t need those expansion beers added to the bottom of my list.

Again... People don’t ask unless they are interested, and you either have to disappoint them and potentially miss out on the main trade, or double your shipping charge and quadruple your packing time so we can exchange a bunch of extra crap you don’t care about.

So after someone has the audacity to pack your box well enough that it makes it to you safely, you have the audacity to complain about the peanuts and then reuse them?

Nobody thinks about the other person. Some of us have tons of packing material and can throw peanuts away if we receive them. But other people may not have enough packing materials and have no choice.

I also disagree, people over-pack boxes with beer all the time. When the ratio of packing to beer is high, that’s a great pack job. I don’t care if they use peanuts in the process.

I doubt that will be a problem, as we trade in different leagues.

I would also hate to not pack to your exact specifications, and force you to have 2 extra minutes of cleanup, and then countless minutes of bitching about it on a message board.

But then that's your fault because you agreed to it.

So seems you are really peeved with yourself for agreeing to stuff you don't want and not having the patience to make the trade you really want.

I am not mad if someone uses peanuts, I just find it annoying. Hence worth mentioning in the "pet peeves" thread.
In my perspective I dislike when I receive too much packing material. I live in a very rural area. Disposal of trash is not easy. There is no option for pick up at the house and the "dump" is open for two hours every Saturday. (by dump I mean a garbage truck that parks at a municipal lot in town).
I just mention this for perspective. I choose to live in an area like this and like it. I have been limiting my trading recently and one reason is because of all the materials that build up.

Packing a box safe is important. Doing that efficiently and economically sound is equally important in my perspective.

I was responding to your hypothetical scenario about "double your shipping charges with two separate trades." I didn't "agree" to anything in your hypothetical scenario.

Please read this slowly. The pet peeve is when other people ask to expand, there is no way that can be my fault, as I am not responsible for their actions. Whether I agreed to it because I was young and stupid, or afraid not expanding would lose the main trade is immaterial.

Yep, if you are just patient, eventually someone will come along and make the exact trade you really want.... no need to occasionally sacrifice to close the deal. Are you new to trading?!?!?

I wish more people were like you. Beer trading is supposed to be fun, and people get upset about something silly like packing peanuts, or that I find it annoying that people ask to expand a trade to swap crap locals to "make shipping worth it".

Understand about packing material. I have a mountain of it, but it's easy to get rid of for me. Everyone has a different situation, and others need to understand that.

Everyone has their peeves, but the expanding trade one is overblown. If someone suggests it, isn't it as simple as, no, I'd like to keep it to what we agreed upon? If they don't like that and nix the entire trade then that is on them. If not expanding causes someone to bail then it's probably someone who isn't reasonable and someone I would not want to trade with in the first place.

I have no problem with not expanding. I've sent plenty of single bottle trades. If you're worried about expenses then you probably shouldn't be trading in the first place. This hobby is expensive and getting into trading only makes it that much more expensive.
