So, two 'winners' and two 'losers'?

    A balanced performance here?

    Cheers!

I know right? I wish they would have used this... the only proper vessel... but then we couldn't see the color.

I’ll just add my two cents regarding the B.United cans of Schlenkerla. Ordered both the Helles and Marzen through OEC several weeks ago. Both were “meaty” to me, especially the Marzen. I used to have Marzen on tap at home around 2014-15 and it was divine; each half liter invited another. I struggled through one can this time around.

And speaking of Exports, I am having Ayinger Jahrhundert for the first time. I am enjoying this quite a bit. And a lot more than Augustiner Edelstoff, which I found had a sickeningly sweet core. I still would prefer a Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold though.

    Up next is Ayinger Oktoberfest-Marzen!

    Uh, that's Oktober Fest-Marzen.

Ayinger isn't within Munich city limits, so they can't call their beer an Oktoberfest.

    :flushed:

All I'll say is the first few times I had Edelstoff it wasn't all that fresh, and I didn't get the love for it. Then I was finally able to grab it fresh when my local store started carrying it and got a few fresh cases of it ... that beer is sublime when its fresh.

I do wonder if that's part of it. It was 7 months old. Not ideal but not terrible either. However, I don't believe that what I disliked wasn't there when more fresh. I had a six pack, so not just one. Well, I fed 3 to my brat mixture. Good brats!

I know it's still early but I would rather drink the German ones as fresh as possible. I will save the US and MN (we're half US, half Canadian) ones for the fall. And my previous beer is happily hanging out in the background.

Oh sorry, should have clarified. I brought that up simply because the discussion was surrounding the Hofbrau Oktoberfest being “Maibock-like” but the actual Hofbrau Maibock is a different animal being an amber Maibock. The Hofbrau Oktoberfest is definitely a pale Oktoberfest.

Pilsner Urquell is supposedly shipped cold during the entire distribution process. How would you say canned/bottled Pilsner Urquell compares to the Urquell you recently drank from the source?

That’s one seriously bad ass mug.

    That’s a great picture, I’m drooling.

@Snowcrash000 confirmed that the 9 month best by date was for the domestic beers. I imagine the export beers have a one year best by date, making your beers four months old. Still not too shabby at all.

That is indeed the advertised case but when I purchase Pilsner Urquell at my local beer retailers they are sitting at room temperature on their shelves. So,....
If by "source" you mean the cellar brewed beer I drank at the brewery the comparison is 'night and day'. Below is a photo of Jacob pouring my beer which I described in my trip report:
