The misses and I have expiring airline credit and are considering cashing it in for a late September quick 3 day trip to Boston since flights are less than $100 round trip out of O'hare. We would ideally stay within a 10-20 mile radius so we don't have to get a car and stay in an AirBnB that is following the cleanliness standards and buy a cheap throwaway set of sheets and blankets. That said, we have no idea what the climate looks like as far as sitting down outside, going somewhere inside for pours, etc etc looks like. We have made this trip before but not during this. Her big win would be if we got to Trillium. So here is what I am looking for from you guys.....Is it worth it? Are there travel restrictions we don't know about? Is anyone doing pours? Thanks in advance
Going to go out on a limb and say it’s not worth it. Here are the travel rules for anyone entering Massachusetts: https://www.mass.gov/info-details/covid-19-travel-order Looks like you would have to do one of the following: - Have a COVID-19 test administered no more than 3 days prior to entering Massachusetts AND get negative results back (if you haven’t gotten the results back by the time you get to Massachusetts, you need to quarantine until you do have them). - Quarantine for 14 days From my perspective, those rules make anything other than truly essential travel to Massachusetts not worth it.
https://www.wbur.org/news/2020/07/24/massachusetts-coronavirus-interstate-travel-rules-august-update Technically, if you get tested in Indiana, get a negative, and fly to Boston within 3 days of that, you're operating within the rules as far as I understand them. That said I think most here view flying as a high risk activity that more or less negates your home state negative (in an ethical sense, not a rules sense). Flying somewhere then indoor dining - not gonna win many fans with that one. Testing negative, flying here, then only doing stuff outside and only with a mask is not quite as egregious imo but I'd still say not worth it (and honestly, not to be a jerk, but not super welcome).
Current Massachusetts travel restrictions require you to have a negative covid-19 test administered up to 72 hours before your arrival. Failing that, you’d have to quarantine for 14 days, which would not work for your scenario. https://www.mass.gov/info-details/covid-19-travel-order
All I needed to hear, thanks! We are both in occupations where we get rapid tested daily so I take comfort in that but not like I am carrying around a card with that info to flash and put peoples mind at rest. Hopefully I can get an extension on my credit haha
Nothing gets you recognized as an outsider faster than sporting a Sox hat with a tag still attached or sporting a bad Boston accent. (Spoiler alert: many/most(?) people do not have the stereotypical accent.) I can pick up the out-of-state BU students getting discounted Sox tickets a mile away in the Fenway bleachers.
While I wouldn't say "many/most" don't, a lot less do than many think. And I would say many don't have a THICK "Hollywood" Boston accent. But go to Southie, or talk to a local in Somerville who's lived there all their life. It's a very thick accent. It's also more recognizable than you think. If you go to other states people seem to be able to spot even subtle Boston accents. But overall I agree with your main point. If you have a brand new Sox hat and you're purposely dropping your "r's" with every word, you're clearly trying too hard to fit in. The Sox suck anyways this year.
The accent exists less and less each year. Outside of Southie or certain neighborhoods in Somerville and a few other communities its almost non-existent. I wouldn't say I ever had a thick Boston accent but I certainly had one at one point. Its nearly gone now, its mostly a few words (my wife loves to make fun of how I say my sister's name Barb). Wherever I travel no one believes I was born in Boston, they assume I only moved there as an adult. When I grew up pretty much everyone within about 20-30 minutes of Boston had some level of accent (I was born in 1972). It was heavier the closer you got to Boston and mostly everyone was born there and so did their parents. When I went to college in Lowell you could definitely tell how far from Boston you grew up. It was also the words, not just the accent. Again I'm not saying it doesn't exist but its harder and harder to find. People are much more mobile now, when I grew up it was probably around 75-90% of the adults that lived in that area were born within a town or two. Now I'd bet its probably more like 25%.
The accent is thick out here in JP too. And then head a few miles west to rozzie/west rox and experience their own flavor of the boston accent.(yeeeaaasss)
Can you use your ticket to fly a big cooler here and have someone fill it up with cans and then ship it back to you?
Realistically if you checked your bag and then just headed home maybe? I think someone can go to baggage(without security check) after in Boston but can’t remember? Then they’d need to have a ticket to check it for you and just keep it under 50 lbs I’m not airport expert though. Maybe it’s a one way out at baggage Maybe it’s still a bit green
Until they realize you aren't on board the flight but your luggage is. They then will delay the flight and remove the bag. They might also send in bomb sniffing dogs and probably question you heavily once they track you down. Once you tell them who is picking up your bag in Boston they will also track them down and question them. Maybe they'll let you off with a warning, maybe you'll be banned from traveling on that airline every again, but I'm pretty sure you'll regret this no matter what. You can get to baggage without a security check but you can't check a bag without having a license that matches the name on the ticket so the plan really fails no matter what.
hey, we tried hard for this guy! Juuuuust wanted to get away from hop burn and monson vs Charton talk
I think you mean it’s hahda and hahda to find. Is that something that’s going on in the Tree House thread right now? I’ve said this before, but I never go there. Nothing good happens there. Not Tree House, just the thread.
