Going with this tonight. Sierra Nevada just flat out knows how to brew damn good beer.

Started off by splitting a bottle of 5 Golden Rings and I seem to like it more than the rest of you. While its a little hot, I still think it's very tasty. Now finishing up a Founders RIS from last year. What to have next... probably a Trois Pistoles, one of my favorite underrated brews.

Yes, a year couldn't fix that, but everything else has come together perfectly.

Pairing this June 4th Nelson with a leftover honey mustard chicken salad and jalapeno grinder. Solid proof that an IPA doesn't implode with a bit of age, still very juicy and nelson sauvin heavy.

See, I SWEAR a woman behind the counter at the cannery told me onetime that they (the Kimmiches) personally thought that Heady was best around three weeks old, for whatever reason. Maybe because the hops were fresh but had decayed slightly or the yeast did something to the beer after a couple of weeks of conditioning, who knows. But I swear I'm not making it up. I thought it was Jen Kimmich I talked to, but I can't say for sure.

I bought a case of week old Nugget Nectar last year. I enjoyed it much more after it was 3-4 weeks old.

I bought several cases of Heady Topper and it gets better as the weeks go on. In fact, I enjoyed it best at about 8 weeks.

Anyways here is an email from Jen Kimmich when I asked how long were the cans good for:

When we 'can' Heady Topper, it is only 3 weeks old. It is super young at this point, but we still make sure everything we package leaves the brewery within 5 days- we never sit on inventory. This ensures that Heady is always purchased young and fresh (hence no need for 'can on' date). Heady Topper is at its best (to our liking) between 5-16 weeks. So, it doesn't really hit its prime for about 2 weeks after it is purchased. Of course, we like Heady during its first 2 weeks in the can- it is raw and pungent. However, it becomes much more graceful over time. Heady will stay 'good' indefinitely- the hops are a natural preservative. However, the hop flavors and aromas will become less pungent and more subdued over time. We just tried some cans from last September and they were still delicious. Nice and hoppy, but very elegant and balanced. While it is nice like this, we prefer it younger and more raw, dank and pungent. Because it is unfiltered, it will evolve over time. Experiment with it and see how/when you like it best. While we like it best between 5-16 weeks (and this is how it is intended to be consumed), some folks like it with more age on it. It is personal preference. Also, because it is in a can and sunlight never effects the hops, Heady will stay fresh longer than many IPA's on the market. Sorry for the very lengthy response. I could talk about this forever... Kind Regards, Jen

Good IPA's drink totally fine for more than a month, often much longer. Oh crap, it's 3 weeks old, guess it sucks now... I don't get it.

Kiwi Lager!!! Wow this lager is on par with any DIPAs including Heady Topper. So fruity, juicy with a nice, crisp finish. Hope they make it again soon so I can send some to my trading partners.

Edit: Also the artwork is awesome!
