On the other hand...Vanilla Deth (my can dated 11/26/18) hasn't benefited from almost 2 years of aging. It's a faded version of what I found to be an enjoyable vanilla stout when fresh; still enjoyable, for sure, but if you're a vanilla aficionado this was better served fresh.

And yes, I'm going exceedingly hard on a Wednesday night, but I think my analysis is sound.

How the hell did I forget about that? It was soooo good too.

For me there was a sweet spot on this one 9 months - a year in. My last can was a bit disappointing compared to that but still good.

The best thing the quarantine has done for my cellar is clear out Deep Woods cans at a faster pace for sure

Since the vanilla was integrated/balanced from the beginning, it makes sense to me that it would not improve with age

I suppose to clarify, I preferred the vanilla on the cans I had in the 9-12 month timeframe over both fresher & older than that.

I had to check to make sure someone didn't reference it before you. And YES. It was absolutely fantastic and I hope they continue to make it. Fingers crossed for it being added to the fall/winter lineup.

Crowlers of Very Old Deth By Currants and Supermassive Cafe Deth are available from the brewpub; you can order from there via Grubhub.

Anyone had Maintains and Shapes yet? If so, how does it compare to District North Line? I love IPLs and DNL was no exception. If it’s similar to that, Ima needs get some.

On that note, Old Irving is releasing its first IPL today as well. I’ve been surprised for years that this style never really took off, hopefully this is a sign.

    Thanks for the feedback, all.

While I am ok on having missed out on the berry ryeway, I'm a little disappointing to have missed out on the super massive deth. I have no doubt it was exceptional, since Coffee deth was excelent during the most recent go around. IMHO, it was better than regular DT (and not even close, although I did not like DT during the recent release as much as during the 2017 release, 2 releases ago).

From my understanding, Rev wanted Vanilla Deth consumed fresh so you won’t see any vintage kegs hitting the market like you see other vintages. They made a concerted effort to ensure it consumed fresh.

They sold cans of Vanilla Deth literally last week as part of the mystery packs.

I really wish they'd take a crack at a new BA vanilla stout. I enjoy Deth's Tar, some of the fruited were great, and absolutely love Cafe/Supermassive. But Vanilla Deth has never done it for me and probably the least favorite of the set. Not sure why, especially as someone who is generally biased to vanilla over other adjuncts, all else equal.

Really can get behind this Maintains & Shapes. This needs to find a way into regular rotation. Sweet maltiness with the crisp and refreshing from the lager angle, and a subtle hop finish that seems perfect. I'd crack 100 of these if I had them readily available without a city travel.

I am obsessed with it and glad you're digging it. I personally would describe the hop finish as much more than subtle, but it all depends on what you're comparing it to.

Looking forward to trying it. I asked above but no one responded: is this similar to North District Line or completely different? Loved that one. Guess I’ll find out soon enough.

How about a Supermassive version that uses vanilla instead of coffee?

I’m not sure how much vanilla they used, but it seemed less to do with the amount and more the integration. They just didn’t go well together for me.
