To get this back to Side Project.....how about those security tags? Will this become normal and will it be effective?

I assume it will be ongoing. With the caveat that I haven’t actually seen it in person yet, I’d expect it to be fairly effective. I’ve seen some people say that you might be able melt the wax / get them off. Even then you’d have to get it on a new bottle seamlessly and wouldn’t be able to make more fakes than authentic bottles you can track down.

Had a friend that traded for a BBT recently have me look at photos beforehand / take a look at the bottle after he received it. Would guess that there’s heightened awareness about it for a while.

I'd bet it becomes the norm on more sought after bottles like your BBTs, Ds, Tete, Anabasis etc, but would probably be too time consuming for the less hyped stuff. This is pure speculation on my part though, so take it with a grain of salt

Just noticed that the price on Not My Forte is now $16, after starting at $20. Not sure when the price was dropped, but seems a little more reasonable.

I'm back from a recent hiatus, and I've read through the Tristan thread. I understand what happened, but I haven't seen any notes (except in the last few messages) regarding the security tags. Can anyone provide a good explanation as to what this is/these are, and what's happening?

I always feel a bit like a burden when I ask questions in this thread. It's almost like there's a secret conversation that's hidden to me, but I know that there's just a lot of member only information, facebook groups, etc. out there that I'm not a part of.

They're adding tamper evident stickers on their waxed bottles - starting with DB Anabasis and presumably Rye BBT / other stouts going forward

Not to stoke any old fires, but I assume this is only to guard against the production of counterfeits, not to encourage/prevent people from reselling. -Is that correct?

There aren’t custom stickers for each person.

With all this talk about label integrity, I now demand that Corey have a drop of his own blood dripped in the middle of the each label, to ensure his genetics match the bottle.

    ....

[6 months later] HEADLINE: Local Brewer Held at Gun Point, Drained of Blood.

Unrelated headline: St.Louis Blood Drive Storage Facility Ransacked. Nothing stolen.

Thanks. Again, not to stoke old fires, but I'm a little surprised they aren't adding numbers or IDs to the stickers/codes. Seems like an easy way to track who bought the bottle and then sold it - IF they are already going through the effort of adding a mechanism to prevent counterfeiting.

(I haven't thought through how practical this is, it just seems like a relatively easy addition. Maybe I'm wrong. Mostly a side comment, not intended to stoke debate.)

Yeah but you can't track on-site bottles and that's how the whole thing started.

They numbered and tracked them when they did OWK. Which is why any bottle of OWK you see that was sold (and many that were just traded) had a part of their label scratched out / torn off. If it were trackable anyone reselling would probably take it off despite the beer being authentic because it's common knowledge reselling = banned.

It's a significantly larger logistical headache now than it was when OWK was released based on the size of the membership / all the online sales. Plus so much stuff is being picked up by proxies actually tracing bottle # to owner would be difficult. Specifically making sure my proxy gives me the bottle that SP registered for me

Also at some point, it’s ridiculous to expect SP or anyone to literally register a beer to a person. This isn’t a firearm. It’s a consumable product sold to a customer. There is no ‘Easy’ way to keep track of that. This is definitely just in reaction to the amount of fake bbt3s and how that blew up and that it was brought directly to their attention.

Zero FOMO for this. Reg Derivation is already virtually impossible for everyone but the 1%. This will be waaaay out of my range. Cool though! Excited for someone else, I guess.

Good lord. How do these TWCP releases work? Do they have their own membership thing? I hope LC gets this!
