Just got a notification that part of my order was cancelled (for the regular anniversary stout). I received a text that two of the bottles I had ordered had been cancelled. Was there a 2 bottle purchase limit? I read over all the site information pretty closely and didn't see mention of any purchase restrictions.

Not upset about it, and I think it probably makes sense (if production was low), but I didn't see anything about any such restrictions anywhere on the Fremont website.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Yes, there was a 2 per household limit on the Anniversary bottles - it said it on the page when you clicked through, but you'd be forgiven for missing it in the checkout rush.

On the first page on the right there were two images/icons: one bottle or two. I assumed that meant there was a limit. I only ordered one bottle so didn’t have a chance to test it, but it would make sense.

Bottles are still available, though, so you could probably try to find a way to get a couple more if you wanted to.

Thanks. I must have missed that.

I'll see if I can get the wife to put in an additional order.

LOL! Just checked the website and the information is there now in no uncertain terms. In fact, it mentions that if you try to order more than 2 bottles, your entire order will be cancelled. Either I'm really, really oblivious (which is certainly a possibility), or this additional language has been added since I placed my order yesterday.

Yeah I don’t remember seeing anything like that, though I rushed through the process, spooked by the short window for the first two releases as described in this thread. Turns out that wasn’t necessary for the regular 11th anniversary release.

Still, I far prefer this method of release to standing in line on a Saturday morning, and hope it doesn’t go away when COVID eventually does.

I think it was probably added since yesterday. I was expecting there would be purchase limits, so I looked for it on the website. I can be pretty oblivious at times for sure, but I don't think I would have missed that language. Particularly the comment that your entire order will be cancelled if you try to order more than two bottles.

And I agree... this beats the hell out of having to stand in line for hours at time in order to get a couple bottles. Did that once for a Kate the Great release and swore I would never do it again.

So 2.3x the beer for 3.3x the price. That makes sense.

But also 4x the hangover, so that isn't too bad, in my book.

I don’t know who first discovered (a few) people were willing to pay that kind of premium, but it was gutsy to shirk the whole “volume discount” expectation.

Probably the wine world? There's speculation that beers age "better" in magnums, so maybe that's part of it?

There's always an upcharge for magnums in the wine world. Explanation? They typically have to be filled by hand, they're made in smaller quantities, (and so are more costly to make/buy) and they require a special cork. All of which translates into a higher price for the customer. I would assume there's a comparable explanation for why beer magnums are so spendy as well.

[I forgot “Exponents” in my “PREMDAS.” I suppose that’s why I teach English instead of math.]

Beer tonight is delicious, though. Thank you, Chuckanut, Breakside, Fremont, and now Reuben’s.

Exactly right. Also the bottle itself costs more and they usually have to specially print larger labels for them, all possibly minor additional costs, but together they add up.

I can remember when some brewers were blissfully unaware of the fact they could go hog wild on magnum prices . One of the first PNW beers I geeked out about was Fish's BA Poseidon, sold in a magnum for $10 back in the mid-00s. If I had a time machine, I'd go back and load up on those.

Yeah. Not too long ago, Sierra-Nevada had a series of anniversary beers honoring various pioneers in the industry. State of the art at the time. They were very good. $10 a pop. At check-out, girl commented they must be very good at that price. Ah the (recent) good old days.
