I talked to my friend in Yakima, he said that there were some hick ups with getting workers into the country around April/may but he said that the orchards have been able to get everyone they need in for the harvest. Presume its the same for the hops but he hadn't heard anything one way or the other. They're up and running in the orchards though

Sounds like a job older high school kids and college kids did back in Scotland to make money during the summer.
Guess that doesn't happen here anymore

Ya not so much. The vast majority of agricultural work in this country is currently done by some sort of migrant labor. Mostly Mexican and Central American. You won't find many US kids in the fields until you go to small farms

Ya I think fruit/berries is still good money if you're good at it. I attended a talk by a big orchardist last year, about economic/pay models for modern farms and he said his best pickers would make over $50/hr on good days.

Anyone know what hop harvest pay is like? These kids are on my last nerve already this morning and I might need to head out and start a new life:grimacing:

Via Facebook: Ex Novo is releasing cans of Fresh Hop Eliot (Centennial Edition) at the Portland location this Friday, August 21.

Cans will be available in Beaverton "as soon as humanly possible, but might not be available at pub open."

Thanks for the tip. Have never been to the Portland outpost, but that comes to an end this weekend.

I didn’t think to poke around the NW forum before starting this thread, and now that I’m following y’all are still gonna make me jealous. This year was supposed to be the year I took a trip to Portland for fresh hop season. Send some of these brews to the Bay Area!

Be safe y’all, and see you when this pandemic finally subsides.

FWIW, I visited SF in September 2018 to see a concert, and I saw 4-packs of Ex Novo Fresh Hop Eliot IPA at City Beer Store.

I almost bought some, just out of habit.

Did you balk at the$20/4 pack price point?

I just checked my phone because I remember taking a picture of the cans and texting it to my wife.

The shelf tag in the photo clearly says "$11.99 Ex Novo Eliot 4pk".

I'm sure the fresh hop version was a couple bucks more, and CA sales tax will add another dollar and change, but that's still an unexpectedly reasonable price.

I just saw that Ex Novo ships out of state, including fresh hop beers. Crowlers of FH Perle Haggard on their site now. Looks like I've got an order to place tomorrow. :sunglasses:

Man.... I am trying to get rid of all the weight I gained during the shutdown due to my support of local breweries. This means no beer for the last month and minimal going forward, but it's going to be real tough considering Fresh Hop Season is my favorite beer time of the year.

I hear you on the weight gain. Realized about a week ago, that since March I probably was averaging 2000 steps a day. Now, I am purposefully getting at least 10,000 steps a day and I am trying to have only one cheat (aka drink beer) day a week. How come the weight never goes down as fast as it goes up? :joy:

I’m back to running after my heart surgery in March. On top of 10,000 steps minimum daily, I’m running 3-4 miles at least 4 days a week. Sometimes you gotta run to drink.

If anyone not in Portland was wondering, the FH Eliot cans are now on the Ex Novo site for shipping.
