They're fine, but not worth paying premium for. Other half used "Monkish collab" to dump some a few years ago with Universal on All Planes, @Feaor remembers! Also, while the label was a fantastic homage to a great guy, EQ's 100% Denali NEIPA, Old Denali Bastard was kind of meh.

There's so much good stuff out there that I think we can be pickier about the hops. There might be people who kind of get into Denali the way I like Belma though.

What's the hop hierarchy for NEIPA style beer?

Tier 1: It's an easy sell if it's the only hop. Fire emoji when paired with another T1
Citra, Mosaic, Galaxy, Strata (too soon?)

Tier 2: Might try on it's own, would prefer it with some Tier 1 or another Tier 2.
Nelson, Simcoe, Enigma, El Dorado, Cashmere, Idaho 7, Riwaka

Tier 3: Likely passing if it's on it's own, though adds something unique
Pretty much most of the rest? Medusa, Centennial (the hop in Two Hearted), Cascade, Hallertau Blanc, Amarillo, Belma, Motueka, Sabro, Chinook, Nugget

Almost everything I put in T3 I would love to try with a T1 or 2 in a dual hop, and it's worth noting things like Chinook still do well in beers like Tree House's Sap. Nugget might have been the most distinct part of Pile of Crowns. Hallertau Blanc and Cascade definitely do a good job in making Broccoli an awesome beer.

I guess I didn't answer your question though, I've found Denali hops have a very specific earthiness that's not super enticing.

I just noticed that Pedro Ximenez is actually an adjunct in the expansion stouts?! At first I thought it was aged in Pedro Ximenez barrels...

    This could be odd?

Yeah, I remember being hung up on this a year ago. Is it an added grape or barrel aged? At the time Andrew said it was sherry barrels, but now that it's bourbon barrel with Pedro Ximenez, it's much less clear.

edit: Plus I can't imagine anyone would ever miss an opportunity to advertise something as barrel aged

I get what you are going for, but I think some of this stuff is subjective based on people's tastes. For example, I agree that Mosaic is a popular hop, but I don't put it on the same level as Citra and Galaxy. I prefer stonefruit over berries. I think Alter Ego is an easy #5 in Tree House's core lineup (it's still 5 right?). I'd take Sap over it always.

I would also take single hop Nelson and Simcoe beers all day. I know Nelson can be polarizing, but come on. #ForeverSimcoeGang?

Amarillo pairs really nicely with so many hops, but I don't think I've ever seen it as a single hop beer. I'd love to see OH do a Simcoe + Amarillo dual hop. That was one of the best Bright variants IMO.

This is what I was hoping for, although I hope they drop some next Friday before I come back to NJ or they last until the next Monday
Basically same thoughts as well as, if I am paying upwards of $30/4pack I'll just get one of the $18 or $20 ones they have now or in the future and they will be as good or better for less money. While the box and labels were cool it just wasn't enough for me to spend the cash on when quality beer is so abundant these days.

So many feels about the box and not getting it (I also assumed they'd linger for a few days).

On one level I think buying it can be a sincere and pure celebration of craft beer culture. The brewers at OH aren't just throwing this shit together because they want to make a quick buck- there's easier, just as certain ways to do that. They seem to really love video games, they love beer, they love being excited about it with us! That's super dope. This is just a logical extension of the merch, now the beer is delivered in merch that you can keep and maybe store other things in or treat all precious in a glass case so that it maybe one day has value because its a first edition (not that you'd ever sell it, you ultimate fan boy, you).

For a couple months I held onto that wooden box my coveted BCBS Rare came in, and contemplated various things I could stash in it. It ended up in a closet and I tossed it last year I think. So it probably doesn't line up with my preferred way of celebrating and supporting craft beer and specifically my favorite brewer.

Which isn't to say I'm happy I missed out on the box. But for me, the real joy of it would have been getting a bunch of friends together and splitting the cans two or more ways, testing the limits of our livers to maybe "beat all the games" in a single session! In that context it doesn't really matter as much if each beer is better than the last or better than the best OH makes; it's just more fun to drink beer with friends that way. Alas, the pandemic would never have permitted that while these brews were fresh.

Cheers to everyone who got a box. Share your beer with a friend if you can, enjoy the liquid inside regardless. I know I'll have an embarrassment of options to choose from over the next few weeks, and might just splurge on the next box these kooks come up with.

Whatever the number, the lack of Roman numerals was horrific

Respect for being on the beers already at 10:40am on a Thursday

    Oh come on, indulge me!

I agree with Simcoe and Nelson maybe being tier 1.5. I won't do single hop mosaic anymore really either (relative to the others), but there was a point where I was into it and many people still seem to be. Also if I was visiting *newest hyped haze Brewer* and I only saw single hop mosaic or single hop Cascade, I'm trying the mosaic first.

I pulled the trigger. Normally I’d be with all of you in this being a tough decision, but my birthday is next week and my wife has been on me about what I want so this was perfect timing. I also haven’t really bought beer in over a month so the fridge is looking a little too empty.

That beer was my favorite at Pastry Town among everything I tried.

Edit: I'd totally snag another for 35 if I was headed that way.

Here to report that Broccoli: NYC Rampage is probably my favorite OH I’ve had in a while. Fruity & creamy with a lil bite. Hint of #melon but not over the top. Big fan.

Hey all, long time reader first time poster. Very excited to grab a bananaversary today since I wasn’t able to go to the anniversary releases.

I agree on Broccoli Rampage, the beer is fantastic compared to the rather lackluster offerings of the past couple month.
