Another really odd beer from Pipe Dream TDH 7.5 with milk sugar and fruit flavored cereal.

Short Throw/Equilibrium Spillmatic TIPA (Strata, Galaxy, Citra). Everything I’ve had by Short Throw has been nothing short of great and there’s definitely nothing wrong with EQ so I figured this would be a treat. It certainly is. Passionfruit, lemon, tangelo, ruby red grapefruit, pineapple, mango skin, floral, hop spice, papaya, grass, pine resin. Pretty neutral malt overall with just some bread and table sugar sweetness. TIPA’s tend to lean on sweetness to cover up the alcohol, but this one seems to be a higher attenuated beer. It’s dry with a firm bitterness, but still manages to be dangerously drinkable. Impressive stuff.

Anchorage Brewing Company’s Blessed.

Opened for no good reason other than to have a fresh tasting. Poured cellar temp, moderately fast to a tulip glass. Color is menacing, deep, dark, opaque brown/black. Forget about any head. This stuff comes out thick like oil, leaving a heavy trail on the glass as it’s moved. Nose is very sweet vanilla, with a mix of subtle coconut. First sips are heavy on the vanilla, not cloying, seemingly balanced by the coconut and heavy malt foundation. The bourbon is aromatic with your nose in the glass, brings a tiny harmonic presence in the sip, but then really comes to roost once the sip is gone. I’m nursing these sips, considering the absurd price point, but a mouth full puts the whole symphony into action. The mouthfeel is extremely thick, which I always enjoy, though I deducted a small amount, wondering if a little lighter might have opened up the profile more...it could just as easily be a 5. The alcohol has no bite whatsoever; totally smooth at all points. It’s so thick and bombastic, I could see pouring this over some fresh whole bean vanilla ice cream. Oh, that would be good on a hot night like tonight. This is usually a cold, dead of winter type beer for me, but I needed to try it fresh, lesson learned from my BA Ten Fidy experience. I only consumed half the bottle, leaving some to enjoy tomorrow...if I can hold out. It’s a beast to be sure, not an every day drink, but a nice first-world luxury. For the per ounce price point, Utopias might be the more complex, refined, and charactered beverage, but if I spend this much on beer again, the missus might not be so forgiving. I’ll call myself “blessed” and move on.

 

Hope nothing happens,but a couple of my Coast Guard buddies fly to Dallas late Sunday so stay safe and check that beer fridge for cold ones now!

Light bodied, nice hop bite. Nothing offensive. Grabbed a mixed 12 IPA pack from Terrapin for some cheap IPA options in the fridge.
