Harpoon Imperial Pumpkin is good in a similar way and slightly less expensive iirc.

As for the original question, it's a seasonal that I enjoy that I acknowledge other people don't; kind of like IPAs for me.

Interesting how the reviews seem to have trended downward over the last decade. I remember having this on draft around 1996 or 97 and enjoying it. However, at the time I had no idea how a lambic should taste, so that opinion is fairly worthless.

So much nostalgia for me with this beer and I pick it up every year, have some in my fridge now as a matter of fact. Along with Warlock, Schlafly, Maple Mistress...

Once it gets a little cooler I will be picking up many more Pumpkin Ales that I enjoy. Give me these and Oktoberfest beers over IPAs any day.

I usually try a few pumpkin beers every year especially when I find them on tap.
    Yes, that is relatively rare.
In my experience the best pumpkin beers are understated. Too many clobber you over the head with pumpkin.
It's better when you first taste one and say, "I don't really taste the pumpkin and let it build on your palate."
By the end of the beer you might say, "That was pretty good."
But then I'm also a pumpkin pie fan, if you are not? Don't try pumpkin beers.
    DFH pretty good.

The Schlafly is fantastic, I will be drinking this often over the season and now I can see why it's been mentioned so frequently in these threads.

So we cracked into this... It just may be the most impressive Pumpkin beer I've had. Super fleshy pumpkin, not just relying on spices to drive all the flavor. The spices are there, just more secondary to the actual pumpkin. Its crazy how good this is. New benchmark for me... wow!

It varies by year but Thirsty Dog makes a pumpkin beer that actually tastes like pumpkin, not pumpkin pie spice. A few years ago it was great. Here’s hoping to a good harvest this season. Cheers!

I usually have a Pumpkinhead Ale from Shipyard at least once a season because someone brings them by or I'm at someones house and that's what they offer. I do not generally seek them out.

One thing I never really thought of until now: why are so many Pumpkin Ales imperial versions? It's not easy to find many lower ABV ones these days.

You may not like my answer but I am pretty sure it is correct: because the beer geek market demands 'moar'!

Here in CT we've had quite the warm summer so far, yesterday in the upper 80's and today has just cracked 90. I'm full fledged into fall beers and pumpkin ales once Labor day weekend is here. That's when I try to clear out all of my summer beers and get ready for my autumn libations! There's a few new ones that I've seen recently (but sparingly) on the shelves that I can't wait to try. Always gotta get my yearly fix of Pumking and Smuttynose's Pumpkin Ale (which to me is a solid example of the style).

One is ok, but that's enough. Last year I drank one and used the other 5 to brine my turkey. Excellent.
