The only beers I've bought from them in the last couple of years is The Kaiser and Maharaja. I can live without the pricing on both of those. If they were in sixers it may be a different story.

No!!!! Worst news ever, their IPA is my favorite out there, and Maharaja and DuganA are mindblowingly good. This sucks if true!

This is where BA's should rise up and try to make a difference, e-mail the brewery, hit'em up on Facebook, tell them how much you love their beer and don't want them to leave the state. It may or may not be true, but it couldn't hurt to show them the love that everyone is showing on here.

Heard the same thing about Avery leaving in 2013 and possibly returning in 2014 after regrouping (are they in the process of building a new brewery)? Maharaja is one of my favourite beers of all time, and had the pleasure of trying Uncle Jacob's stout at the brewery last month (mindblowing)!

A good IPA that comes in cans is leaving, that makes me a little sad.

it's all your fault. I blame the lack of Maharaja in the future solely on you.

That's a shame the stuff they put out has been pretty solid IMO.

Also, their distributor, Chisago-Lakes, has been purchased by J.J. Taylor, although I don't think one has to do with the other. I truly hope we don't lose many of C-L's catalog, especially the great imports they've been bringing us over the years.

I have held off letting it be known about the Chisago acquisition by J.J, because I hadn't seen any posts about it. I don't see the two subjects being related either. It's going to be interesting to see what comes and goes, and what goes where with this shakeup. Especially the imports that come from Shelton, B. United, Vanberg & DeWulf, etc.

How these two factors can NOT be seen as related is confounding. What is weird is that they'd leave altogether rather regroup with BtBG.

Shelton has quietly voiced their disdain for JJ ever since they dealt with them in Florida, and it seems as though they will either back out of MN entirely after the change or seek a new distributor (which seems like a long-shot at this point).

It may be a long shot. I can't see Shelton signing on with any of the big dogs here. However, there is one person I know that has had great relations with Shelton in the past. He's already got the B. United accounts outside the Chisago distro territory.

They have a solid new distro in IA, I think we will see more and more of their stuff.

As for who else they would go with in MN....Hohensteins? Shelton Bros. has some solid stuff, and C-L did a great job getting it to the outstate area especially along 94 (Thank you Julie!), but maybe as the other big names expanded outstate it has put enough of a dent in their sales that they will drop out for the time being.

I talked to BtBG today, he seemed pretty happy about his prospects of picking up some of his old brands at this new shop. That is all I will say.
I just don't want to see our shelves dry of great Belgians, that is all I will say.

Just heard this today, both from seperate stores & a buddy who works in a store. For those interested, the unconfirmed story is:
MN requires breweries to purchase a license for their product to be distributed in MN; estimated @ $10,000. Several of the breweries refuse to pay this (see New Glauris). In order to distribute Avery, Chisago Lakes Dist was paying MN a fine (of undisclosed amount). Enter JJTaylor purchasing Chisago Lakes Dist. JJ states they aren't paying a fine because a brewery won't pick up the MN license...so, several top tier breweries may disappear from MN shelves. As the thread name states, Avery is the first name mentioned, with Founders, Southern Tier and Great Divide also "possible" brands that may disappear.

I state again: this is all word of mouth and not confirmed.
