Thanks. I’m thinking more about my target. I like almost everything.

I’ve been meaning to update that for a little over 6 years... Perhaps now is the the time!

You all should have seen my eyes when I read this.I knew I wanted to try Three Floyds RIS but thought they had shut down operations so I would be out of luck for a while and if their RIS is Dark Lord I had thought it was released one day a year to selected ticket holders.
So either I misremember something or you are an absolute magician. Or both.
Anyway, it was funny for a second while all this went through my mind.

Okay, as @FBarber pointed out a couple days ago, I have been far more fortunate in receiving beer lately from LIFs than the average person. One was late in the previous NBS_BIF and then again in this one just recently. So not only is it my turn to keep this one going, but it's also my turn to keep #11 going (Just in this new, updated NBS_BIF forum thread)
So while sitting at Gravel Bottom with three of my friends I brought up the subject of how to run this and got many ideas. All but one were immediately discarded (I hadn't had *that* much beer yet!)
We talked about basing it on sports, but other than individual games I couldn't come up with anything definite. Politics was shut down before it got started. Round and round we went until finally we had sufficient beer to prompt a decision.

Part one (Or LIF from NBS BIF 11) Which team, of any sport, professional or amateur, has the best mascot and/or logo and why.

Part two (Or LIF for NBS BIF 12) Deb is one of the people sitting with me last night and an internationally known artist in oil painting with a primary focus on water. Beautiful work. Anyway, what I want you to tell me - how tall is Deb?

The answers will be gathered through Thursday, Friday I will make the call. Of course, if someone accurately tells me how tall Deb is, that one will stop immediately.

Photos for part one are not required, but are encouraged.

    Right. Go!

I assume you're talking about Deb Anderson ... uh, 5 foot 10 inches?
I've got to write up my explanation, but come on, is there any doubt who I'll pick?

Floyds is still operational - as a matter of fact, they’re so operational, they just released their first “official” hazy IPA, Barbarian. The brew pub is closed until further notice, but they have a very functional curbside service - you don’t even have to get out of your vehicle. They probably have 15 beers available for pick up, including BA Behemoth, their BA barleywine.

They did cancel Dark Lord Day, which is usually held in May, but they did a release of vintage Dark Lord bottles in July where you could purchase 4 or 5 bottles (3 or 4 of the base plus one vintage variant). They did this online and it sold out in 8 minutes.

I snagged one of the 4-packs and I have some leftovers from 2019 (I went to DLD with a childhood buddy who is also a beer nerd in 2018 and 2019), so as I said, I am rife with Dark Lord. We can work something out if you want to dance with him.

I just wanted to take a moment to highlight this NBW post from @Pinz412 :

This is why we do this BIF. So many of us set aside beers specifically to review on Sunday, and share with the group - and outside of the BIF, there aren't any threads I "follow" on BA except for NBW.

This is also why we expanded to Saturday.

BA is a very small cross-section of craft beer drinkers, essentially a sub-community. Within BA, NBS/NBW regulars are a micro-community, if you will. Pinz captured all of that in one post, more succinctly than I can manage - and threw in a great review, as well.

Alright. My beloved Gritty is the best mascot in sports because he is delightfully and adorably weird. Sports teams take their mascots way too seriously, giving them long contrived backstories, complicated biographies on team sites and in media guides ... but Gritty? He's weird, he doesn't make sense, and he defies explanation and thats what makes him weirdly lovable. More importantly he is intentionally not serious. He's kind of a weird inside joke that everyone gets to play along with.

And just how beloved is he? Well its not just Philly ... He was voted both the NHL fans' favorite mascot and the NHL players favorite mascot (2 years in a row).

He is unmatched in his social media game:
I could go on, but you get the idea.

He really embodies the Philadelphia persona: https://www.inquirer.com/business/c...iladelphia-police-investigation-20200122.html *

*He was cleared, but ya know, who else's mascot get accused of assault?

and finally, just remember, if you dont pick him as the best mascot in sports, this could be you @Whyteboar

While I'm sure there are persons named Deb that have those specified heights, they are not the Deb I am referring to. :-)

Best mascot you ask? Well, the correct answer must be Youppi! A brief case:

Youppi has reached the pinnacle of the mascot game in two of the four major professional sports leagues in North America. The Bo Jackson of the mascot world if you will. Moreover, he was once courted by the CFLs Montreal Allouettes, but turned the gig down.

He is a Hall of Famer (Mascot Hall of Fame). He is one of three mascots whose likeness is on display at the Baseball Hall of Fame. He doesn’t smell nearly as bad as one might think, particularly in the dead of summer. He gives great hugs (or so my wife tells me...).

His skill with respect to the intimidation of an opponent is so finely honed, that he became the first mascot to be thrown out of a Major League Baseball game.

Bill Lee invokes his name in the Ken Burns documentary. (Sadly, I can’t seem to find the clip).

In the storied history of the Montreal Canadiens, he is the only individual to have the privilege of wearing the exclamation point.

Also, @FBarber , he has some choice pantomimes for your friend Gritty!

I could of course go on, but I don’t think that is necessary.

    185.42cm.

Much like his team, Youppi is no match for Gritty.:stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
