Unless Untappd and Beer Advocate are incorrect, it is labeled as ‘Imperial Smells Like Bean Spirit - Special Roast (Bowline Blend)’ and it’s 10.5% abv (11% on Beer Advocate).

Yeah, it looks like maybe they didn't create a new entry. On the Mikerphone site under the Beer Menu section, they have it listed as:

SMELLS LIKE BEAN SPIRIT SPECIAL ROAST: BOWLINE
Breakfast Stout w/Maple Syrup & Tugboat Coffee's Bowline Blend, 8.0%

There's listings for both regular (canned 12oz) & Imperial (750ml bottles) Special Roast Bowline on both BeerAdvocate & Untappd.

Makes sense. Should have checked. Thanks for the confirmation.

And based on today's FB post, they are putting The Cookies & Cream Cheesecake Incident through the ice cream machine and serving it in a glass with crumbled Oreos and a cherry. Sounds like someone is reading my diary...

The ISLBS Bowline was a few months ago (maybe 6 months even, time has no meaning any more). The SLBS Bowline just came out like a week or two ago.

BTW, every "Special Roast" Bean Spirit I have tried has been excellent except for the French Toast one. It just didn't work for me for some reason.

They made a point on Instagram of saying it was a new beer using the same coffee blend as the old ISLBS bowline beer but this time on the non-imperial (SLBS) recipe. It is kind of confusing. I got a can, I really like the non-imperial, I think it's almost as good as ISLBS but obviously getting it done in a more manageable ABV

I guess I don't know what exactly makes a beer imperial vs. not, but I'm surprised an 8% isn't an imperial.

Hadn’t thought about that but good observation. I guess the standard isn’t based on exact ABV since hoppy beers have that 7.5/8% standard

Isn't imperial just meant to be a stronger version (relative) of a beer? I think it's used "correctly" (whatever that means) here between the two beers.

I don't don't know. For stouts, I've always seen "regular" stouts below around the 5-6 or maybe 7% mark. Don't think I've ever seen one at 8%. Then imperials (non BA) always seem to be in the 8-11%. For IPAs, which I am not as well versed, I'm not sure if I've seen too many "regular" versions around that 8% mark. Seems like Imperials are always there. Then, when you go into yet other styles - say, for example, an "imperial" berliner (which is kind of silly), they are obviously at that 8-10% mark since the standard is 4-5%. -Or, as founder's has made several times, with imperial golden ale's and such, they always seem to be 8-11%.

You may be absolutely correct, just seems strange. I don't know if there's a difference in brew method (I assumed there is, but I have no idea).

I always thought when a beer is classified as "imperial", it means they have doubled the ingredients wether they be hops or grains, but the water used is the same as a "non-imperial"

I could be wrong though. I do know they are usually higher abv.

Mike and Eric of MoRE making a beer together called “Breakroom Buddies.”

I understand they met there, and Mike is what initially made that place popular, but the only thing going through my head is what a huge POS Mr. Heineman is/was. I’m sure quite a few others don’t need to be reminded of that place either...

Yeah I know...Breakroom just makes me irrationally angry, which is obviously a personal problem.

Bought into the their membership, and never got everything we were promised. Also, they were suppose to build the bar at my friend’s restaurant, and he never finished it (not the first or last place he did it too).

Im sure most current Mikerphone or MoRE patrons never heard of Breakroom, but still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Again, personal problem I’ll get over it. Sorry for the rant.

You act like Breakroom happened 30 years ago. Not possible that anyone drink beer in 2020 heard of this old place.

breakroom buddies is really really good. not overly fruited, the citra is dominant here. pineapple and tangerine bring out some of the flavors but dont overpower anything. one of the best "fruited" ipas ive had this year.
