If you want your kids to hear a lot of profanity and become exposed early in life to something that can be quite an addiction for many people then feel free to bring them. I personally believe kids should NOT be in a bar, with a small exception, such as a family restaurant that happens to have a bar and/or serves alcoholic beverages.

Otherwise I have just one word for you..... BABYSITTER

I'm sure you can find a bar or two without drunk people screaming curse words every second.

Straight up bars, probably not. Beergardens...definitely. This is the southwest corner of Augustinerkeller in Munich. My kid runs straight there whenever we arrive -- and I head straight for a liter mug of Helles....

It doesn't bother me. People in the US are far too uptight about that kind of thing IMO. I'd much rather have to sit next to a baby at a bar than, say, an airplane (which unfortunately is not illegal).

I can go to any chain restaurant have a decent meal and the seasonal whatever sam adams is puking out at the time or I can go to founders have a great meal and some fantastic offering that is taproom only while my kids have a blast throwing peanuts on the ground. Would I take my kids to a bar just so I could have a beer, no, but do I think its okay to take children to a micro-brew pub to enjoy a meal as a family, yes.

It depends on the bar and on the time of day. My old man used to take me and my brother to the local tavern on a staturday afternoon for lunch once in a while. It was a small place where everybody including the owner knew everybody. We would have our burgers with coke, he'd have a leinies with his. Not a problem. On the other hand, a bar at night with people engaging in the usual nightime bar activities is no place for children.

I don.t mind sitting next to an airplane. Not nearly as annoying as a child.

The answer depends on time of day and type of establishment. I will say that if there is a child near me, and I am at a growns ups bar, I will not curb my language or behavior, as I am there to cut loose. Not going to be a dick about it, but if I have this great off color joke to tell about a garden hose and a gallon of Vaseline, I am not going to censor myself.

No thanks on the babysitter, I don't trust people with my kid, but that is for a different discussion. As far as hearing loud drunk people cursing, well that depends on where you go, as I said in the original post, I wouldn't take my kid to a bar full of drunk obnoxious people, the bar I did take her to was a very laid back craft beer bar, quite, no booming music, no smoking etc. The only downside was limited food selections (their focus was beer).

Food was really irrelevent in my case as my daughter is not quite a year old so we bring her baby food with her and this was before 8pm.

When I was in Belgium I was served at a bar by a girl who couldn't have been more than 12. Things are different there...

For those with kids, y'all need to go to Outer Banks Brewing station. Not only do they brew some excellent beer, they have a fenced in full acre outdoor playground (complete with kids pirate ship)! It was parent beer drinking nirvana. The time we went offseason, there was easily 25 kids outside playing.

But to the OP, yes we occasionally bring our daughter to a brewery. Breweries in Charlotte are more kid friendly than most restaurants in town.

A "bar" bar? We have occasionally stopped at World of Beer on a Saturday afternoon and sit on the patio and had a beer on a nice day before heading home. There are usually dogs on the patio to entertain my daughter or we bring her like 20 activity books. Would I take her there after 6pm, no. If I had to sit inside with her, no. But sure if it is a nice day and the patio is open, yes.

I don't care what you do with your own kid and it doesn't bother me in anyway if they are in there. With that said you will never find me with my kid in a bar.

This is such an upsetting subject for me... and has been even before i had a kid. This culture here that kids shouldnt accompany parents once in a while to their neighborhood pub is such a shitty part of US. Where is the sense of community? Who would even think of looking at you sideways if you had some pints at a pub in England while your kid is next to you? This compartmentalization and specialization of everything here bothers me so much. live and let live ffs. of course if the kid is being a bitch normal parents get him out of there.

So I do find pubs around me that dont' mind normal shit like this.. and i go there .. often.. just so happens the most famiily friendly pub.. and it's called a pub... is operated by french dudes.

of course there are bars where people get sloshed and you go late to mack on the opposite sex and listen to loud music.. those aren't the kind of bars one would take kids anywhere anyway

Totally agree. For me this attitude makes our adolescent U.S. beer culture 18% shittier.

Provided they are otherwise occupied and not speaking to me, yelling where I can hear them, or doing that weird staring thing that kids do, I don't mind if they are at a bar I am drinking at.

I however do not hold myself responsible for any psychological damage your kids suffer due to the proximity of being near my foul language at said bar.

I guess you do not have trustworthy friends or family in your life, but that is a different discussion.

Is there a sign on the door of any bar that says "Kid friendly bar, no cursing, no sex talk, Rated G" ?

and helps to make drinking taboo as kids become teenagers... they binge and act a fool.
