    Agreed.

It just felt really muddled to me.

I think it’s because these days many people simply lump any non-New England IPA into the West Coast style.

I’m guilty of this myself. Although I don’t really care because it gets confusing to say Midwest IPA, East Coast IPA, Vermont IPA, New England IPA, American IPA, Milkshake IPA, Brut IPA..and then single, double, and triple versions of each of those...the difference becomes hazier than the beers we’re drinking.

Between the premature stale flavors and the warped packaging, I'm guessing MA's batch of Axe Man probably went in and out of refrigeration multiple times in transit. Maybe spent a little longer than it should have on a hot truck?

The cans I got were over a month old so there's definitely a chance of mishandling and age playing a big factor

Having it on draft right now, tastes fine. The cans I got were definitely bad and had that taste of an ipa where the hops had fallen off.

that's a shame the cans didn't travel well. I often go to MN for work, and AxeMan used to be my go-to on draft, until Toppling got more readily available out there. When fresh Todd is the slightly juicier of the 2 (Furious being more malty), reminds me a lot of Wormtown's Don't Worry. Sounds similar to the fate of some of the Toppling cans that we get out here. Sosus on draft in MN was one of the best tasting beers I've had in a long time, but the cans I got here were nothing special.

According to Fenway Beer Shop's insta, Surly's full lineup is now available in MA full time. Def going to pick up a Furious 12pk.

I've gone through a few 4-packs of Citra Xtra Pale Ale, it's a really nice one. Checks in @ 4.5 ABV as well.

This sounds like the worst episode of Fear Factor ever.

Didn’t realize your post was a link.

In any event, I really don’t care about their labor relations. If you do, that’s fine too.

It wasn't my post but I do care a bit, whether that will affect my buying decision is another story. When the full story is out then maybe it will, maybe it won't.

i don’t like the union busting but if the tap room sales are down 82%, closing it down may have been in the works as they say it was.
Given the pandemic it’s hard to totally blame surly for this.

they hired a dozen new staffer in the weeks prior to the layoffs, which just so happened to take place two days after workers announced their intentions to create a union

    what a coincidence, indeed!
