Being a parent requires much sacrifice. Unfortunately you may have to give up some of your passions while they are still young and focus most of your attention on them. That's how my parents did it and I am constantly told by others how lucky I am to have such great parents. But my parents are different from most american parents, they don't drink for one so they wouldn't have this problem. In my family we believe once you have kids you must sacrifice everything to make them succeed. That may be unpopular here but I think it's worth it and I can't really argue with their results.

I wasn't going to wade through the five pages, but my fave spot, The Porter in Atlanta, allows kids until 10pm. Now that doesn't mean there's a ton of them there, but they are allowed in and can be seated at tables to eat. After 10pm, and always at the bar itself, no kids. While I'm not a fan of the chirrens, my lady has two so we do make that choice to go once in a while with them. Same goes for a few other choice spots, kids are allowed in the daytime but forbidden at night and always seated at the bar. I think in the end it's common sense to decide to take your kid to a bar, and anything you get upset about you should expect, IE someone cussing or being rude, it is after all a bar.

I have done this ONCE, only once. My wife works in retail and therefore worked on Black Friday as did everyone in the industry. That left me home with kids. One problem, local craft beer bar was having their own Black Friday event. Tapping EFFING CBS @ 9am. I knew it wasn't going to last until she got home, and I didn't have sitter options.
    I went.
    I checked availability of CBS.
I asked for the "blessing" of the wait staff on bringing in the littles.
    I assessed the clientele.
I went out and got them from the car.
We went in, and took a corner table.
I dropped $5 in the video game in said corner.
I nursed every sip of that succulent 6oz pour.
I checked it in on Utappd.
    They finished the game.
I asked for another pour only to be told that it was gone 3 pours after mine.
    We left.
No harm, no foul. All workplaces are non-smoking now.
I'm pretty sure most other patrons never knew we were there.

Outside of these circumstances...I don't want to deal with my kids while enjoying a beer.
Not going to take them, but for CBS on tap...yeah, they can play a video game in the corner!

I take my kid once in a while down the street to my local brewery. It is a family friendly establishment with board games and is pretty quiet. The owners actually bring their kids on in a while too. I even feel a bit weird there but there is nothing going on sketchy (foul language, smoking, etc)

I don't like having kids around when I'm drinking beer. Doesn't matter whether I'm at a bar or at home. It's just weird to me.

It would be hard to really enjoy a beer if kids are nearby. That's just my opinion folks...

my daughter is one. my wife does not drink much if any and is always good for a ride home. I always enjoy their company though despite I am usually the only one drinking! I personally bring them where ever I go until some one else tells me otherwise. I could care less what other people think, im not ashamed to enjoy beer and dont find it strange to enjoy my family as company either.

that being said I would take them to a dive bar if they had cantillon on tap! lol and actually I would think there would be less drama at a dive bar then a regular bar anyway.

I love having my daughter around because I work so much and dont get to see her as much as id like. I dont think anybody should be ashamed to take their kids to a water hole as long as drunk driver is not involved in the equation.

My son is awesome, adorable, and very well-behaved. I would take him anywhere with a food menu during a reasonable hour for children. I'm happy to teach him, by example, that alcohol is something that can be enjoyed responsibly and is not something that must be consumed in secret/isolation.

Anyone that would find him upsetting just because he's little and in their presence is someone I'm not all that concerned about bothering.

id actually be more comfortable taking my daughter with me to a bar then letting her go to public schools!! anybody who thinks otherwise needs to open up their eyes and look around. theres far more worse things happing on the bus ride home...

To each their own, but do you guys just not go to sporting events, or summer BBQ's, or big family holiday meals, or restaurants for lunch, or...

Basically I don't know how you can drink beer regularly to the point of being on BA yet completely avoid ever drinking beer around kids.

Our drinking culture is just not centered on appreciation and respect in regards to alcohol. In most European and Scandinavian countries I wouldn't think twice about taking a kid to an establishment that has a bar. Here, it would have to be a damn good craft beer bar, and then earlier rather than later in the day.

Yeah - it's definitely something I noticed in some of our friends, and we vowed to never be like that before we had kids, and now we've stuck with it. It's really not hard at all to get out of the house regularly and enjoy life with kids - they tend to enjoy much of the same stuff that mom and dad do when they are little. Fact is, it's good and healthy for kids to get out into public, and they really do get more bored in the house sometimes than people realize.

Like most everything in life, it's all what you make of it.

Not just coal, anthracite! Always had Yuengling Porter in the house in Mt. Carmel. Still not used to buying beer at the distributor in PA.

I was there somewhere around 3:30 to 4 pm. The guy that got the bottle had been there since 9am!! I was hoping, but I've got one in the fridge, so I wasn't totally bummed!
    What time were you there?

I have two daughters who are now in their teens and have followed a generally reliable rule since they were small. Beer Bars in the States...No. Beer Gardens and Pubs with Grub in Europe...Yes. Sadly, there is usually a difference.
