I know there’s a thread about changes we hope remain post-pandemic. One of the short lived changes, at least in the Bay Area, was when beer bars were able to sell draught beer to go. I finally got to use growlers and bottles that had sat unfilled for years at a time! And then everything shut down for a while and that was that.

Now that things are opening up again, I haven’t seen anyplace outside of breweries and brewpubs selling beer-to-go from the tap. I’m wondering if this is just a matter of not looking hard enough, what’s in my area, or the laws changing back. Regardless, this is one thing I’d like to see continue, somehow.

Liquid Gold in SF is still selling draft beer. They're not filling growlers or bottles, though - they fill a mason jar for you with the beer you select.

So is it a fresh mason jar from them each time?

Yeah, I believe so. I still have the mason jars from the last time I ordered draft beer from them.

    I’m not exactly clear.
I know of quite a few restaurants that are open at this point.
Some sell growlers aka mason jar beers to-go.
I’m not sure if this is a rarity.

I haven't tried this at any point but there are still restaurants with signs out front advertising margaritas and bloody Marys to go

Haven't confirmed for myself, but it looks like The Hop Grenade in Concord is still doing to-go 64oz. growlers, $25/$20 with the growler or $20/$15 growler exchange, depending on the beer. The options are still available in their online store.

Armadillo Willy's is selling draft beer to go. A few weeks ago at the Los Altos one, I got a pint of BCBS for $6 in a plastic cup with a straw.

Davis Beer Shoppe is. Got some nice Henhouse filled there. Pricy though, pricier by the ounce than a typical can of the same.

Lots of craft beer bars are doing this but I'm not seeing lower beer to go prices. It's ridiculous to pay for retail draft in a to go package.

Way I see it, if this means a local stays open through all of this then it’s worth it.

As much as I miss the early pandemic draft deals, I can’t fault them for charging the same price now...after all, food to go is usually the same price. And we didn’t even used to be able to get draft beer to go.

Now that things are shutting down (at least in SF) I wonder if we’ll see some places try clearing out their inventory again—or if that’s even allowed.

My local beer bar got a crowler machine so they can start selling through their kegs

I'm not seeing any great official discounts this time around, but some places have offered me some sort of unofficial discount (i.e. charging me for 3 pints instead of 4). I understand why, but I miss the days of $10 for a 64 oz fill of Barebottle Buzzed Life Triple IPA.
