Yup, that can happen when somebody expresses a controversial opinion!:grimacing:

    Cheers!

I think Beer will continue to be stuck in the adjunct haze until we take advocacy more seriously. The line between Flavored Malt Beverage and Beer in terms of tradition, nerdy process, and intention, is blurring. We shouldn't fear calling out flawed, inconsistent, and lazy beer anymore, and we need to champion experts, and reward honesty.

Related dichotomy in the wine community: Yellow Tail and other commercial wines coexist with Burgundian Monopoles and Georgian Amphorae. The former can be all you know, but also be a gateway to the latter...

    Controversial indeed. Controversial and wrong.

A true craft beer fan has no problem (and no shame) throwing down a High Life or PBR once in a while. I call it "resetting the palate"

Well, as a "true craft beer fan," I really can't recall the last time I had a macro-brew. I understand you may enjoy a High Life or PBR now and again, but don't paint all of us with the same brush.

I spent part of my life drinking BMC when there wasn't much else available. Now that I have so much choice, I don't waste it.

Palate reset? Taking a break from beer usually helps that just fine.

Didn't expect to touch a nerve here! My "controversial" opinion was tongue in cheek. Lighten up. You sound like me when I was just starting out.

    Well, you didn't really...
Until now. I wasn't being anything more than honest, but since you're looking for acidic...

If you're attempting parody, it's best to enlist the emojies -- they help show you're being "tongue in cheek."

And yeah, I "started out" even longer before my BA date may suggest.

I can't even recall the last time I had a Fizzy Yellow Beer.

I'm not wasting time with them, when I can just grab a lighter Lager from a local brewery.

Google "Hop cannon" for one technique.

There are also the SN Torpedos.

More like light trolling in a provocative manner. The title of the thread allows wide margins. Getting a rise out of folks insincerely is problematic, but I believe this fellow believes what he said. Oddly, I would have preferred the "light trolling" method.

@mambossa This video is fascinating, and towards the last third they address the goals of biotransformation and how that interacts with different hopping regimens. Why even dry hop in the first place if its so risky? And of course Janish has very practical tips on his blog, for both dry hopping and packaging. (canning is the worst)

Have we done pumpkin beer yet?

Pumpkin beer is vile. It is fit for nothing but pouring down the sink or setting out in the garden in shallow bowls to drown slugs.

That's always best and preferred. But I have a hard time paying a premium for it from a local brewery when I can get a comparable macro lager much cheaper.

Understood and likewise. Started out in the late 90s steady diet of Sam Adams, Harpoon, Blue Moon. Things only got better from there! In the rare occurrences when I show up at the house with PBR I do get eye rolls from my wife who thinks I'm better than that!

If the local is only brewing comparable to Macro, I'd be looking at the next nearest local. :grimacing:

This season I found a new Festbier from a local that's been around for a while (and the brewmaster even longer) that was better than many nationwide Oktos available. Making matters even better, it was cheaper than anything else on the shelves!

Very few make the premium worthwhile as most don't specialize in lagers. Breweries that have 8 NEIPAs and 2 pastry stouts on tap at any given time generally struggle with their lager game.

That being said, here in the Northeast I pretty much stick to Jack's Abby and Von Trapp for my lager needs. That's pretty much all they do, and they do it at a high level.

There’s some I don’t like because they are poorly done, of those heavyweights you mentioned more of those brewers comes close to that. But there are some I like better than others, much better, like Treehouse Very Green. I The ones I don’t like are super astringent, so much so they burn the back of my throat, sometimes the wheat oats combo just doesn’t work. But as always palates are an individual thing, and I can certainly see why they’re a bit polarizing. Besides Resident Culture or Heist is like $7 a can, so they’re expensive as well.

I love Weihenstephaner Hefe that’s about it, some American versions tasted like they we’re brewed with bubblegum. Yuck, I drank some of the first can and poured 5 1/2 cans down the drain. The only Hefe I’ll buy now is Weihenstephaner, the rest as far as I can tell are horrible imposters.
