Is this real? I hear about truck chasers on BA, but I honestly can't imagine that people out there literally follow distributor trucks around scooping up limited releases. Anecdotes, personal experience, and other factual information wanted. Cheers!

i don't think anyone literally follows trucks around. it's just in reference to the people who go to every store in the area buying as much as they can

This is me, but at a one bottle limit, I don't really see the problem.

It's not really a problem per se, but the idea behind 1 bottle limits is to 'spread the love' with limited releases. They also give others with less disposable time than you have a fighting chance to score a bottle.

Yeah. I drive about an hour to get to the three places I usually pick stuff up at, so one bottle at each I think is fair.

This happens in Chicago. I don't think you are going to get much of a first person account here since many that do this are not BA's, and if they are, they most likely don't want to share about their truck chasing ways.

There was a thread about it earlier in the year - Truck Chaser Confessions - and, as I mentioned there and confirmed by two other BA's, the NJ craft distributor, Hunterdon, has had trucks that were followed for some releases.

Has there even been an incident of someone robbing a beer truck? I imagine a truck full of (insert beer here) could be just as lucrative as robbing a Brinks truck with a lot less hassle.

Yeah- I heard it too, from a Hunterdon driver during the CBS release a year or so ago. Some shopkeepers have said the same thing, so I'm inclined to believe it happened.

Yes! It was especially bad for last year's 120 minute release.
I try not to sweat the limited release stuff too much. If I can't get it in my usual places I don't go driving around. There's plenty of awesome year round stuff to drink. Like most of us, I have a job, family and a real life and not a lot of free time on my hands to go chasing trucks.

That's kind of weird that it happened for the 120- I remember that one sitting on the shelf for a while after the release.

Total agreement on the 'plenty of awesome beer' part.

This happened with CBS, I knew people that worked at different stores and I found out afterwards that there was a bunch of people waiting for CBS at Total Wine in Fairfax, va. Most of them did not get it, and they actually asked the truck driver where their next stop was and a bunch of people follewed the truck to Total Wine in Manassas, va, maybe half an hour away.

Some local store in RI posted about how someone followed around a distributor when their Cantillon stock got sent over earlier in the Fall. I couldn't beleive it actually happened.

A local shop employee (maybe the owner) told me that a couple guys followed the delivery truck to his store for BCBS and offered him 2x the selling price for the entire allotment (3 cases). I didn't think people actually did this until I heard this story.
