Does this actually happen much? I don't go to many big releases or anything, but the ones I've been to have been orderly, respectful, basically completely chill. Everyone's basically in it for the same reason, or at least it seems that way. Again, anecdotes, personal experience, and other factual information wanted. Cheers!

Lost abbey is an infamous spot for the proverbial "line cutters"

Yes. Not a lot, but there are definitely dumbfucks who cut in line if they can get away with it. Most people will not, even when there is an opportunity. Thats why it really irks me when someone does. It demonstrates a total lack of respect for anyone they cut in front of.

Chat and cuts ftw. I haven't done it for a beer release, but I'm guilty of doing it at the occasional midnight video game release.

This is hardly a profile in beer. I have experienced line cutters since I was in the second grade. My Dad tought me quick! Call'em out! Nothing embarreses line cutters like bringing them to the public light!

Yes it does happen. Once during Great Taste of The Midwest at the Goose Island booth where they had the special tappings. I walked up and stood near the tap and the guy serving people in line asked me what I was doing. I told him I was starting the line for King Henry (which was up next) then he asked for my friend and I's glasses to fill (with Cherry BCBS) to drink while my friend and I waited. With the line for KH forming behind me people in the line for Cherry BCBS started hanging around the tap. Slowly a group of peopel started to form in front of me. Then Just before they tapped KH he moved everyone in front of me to the back of the line so they actually had to wait longer which I though was pretty funny. Even though I did sorta skip when I got the BCBS Cherry I will justify that by saying it is not entirely my fault lol don't even act like you wouldn't take it too if it was offered. And that is the story of how I got my avatar. Cheers!

This happens are Dark Lord Day every year. I think my group was around 120 in line. I think we end up about 250-300 when the doors opened.

Same thing with the CBS release. At the CBS release it was especially apparent since they handed out numbered tickets. When my group got there we were 180th in line. My ticket read 318 when all was said and done.

Just one more good reason to avoid those sort of events.

It sucks, but if you want to go to Brewery only releases you'll have to deal with it

Blatantly cutting the line is a dick move. But what about people saving spots in line for their friends? I think that's the main reason that people appear to "cut" lines at a release. I got shut out at the Splinter Blue release because of that and it bugged the hell out of me, but I'm not sure how wrong it actually is.

No excuse. People need to be accountable, and thus, show up in a timely manner for these releases. I have been to a few releases where I had some major shit going on that weekend or that day, and you know what, I made the time for it. Excuses are cheap these days.

I remember we went to Disney World when I was young and there was an issue with South American tour groups sending 2 people in line to wait for rides then the rest (30+ people) would cut in line. My mom went to guest relations to complain and a ton of other people were complaining about it to. They ended up giving out passes for their other parks to everybody.

Maybe next brewery release I can bitch and get free beer? Just kidding

Line cutters should be dealt with quickly and publicly as that is usually enough to rectify the situation. It's up to you to make friends with the people around you and control your area. If everyone watches their "area" it should keep the cutters to a minimum.
With regard to "saving a place in line" if the people around me are saving "a" place and have a good excuse (working, hospital, death, vasectomy, etc), I'm willing to let that one person slide. However the friends better let everyone know the minute the line starts forming and if anyone else shows up with that person it's the end of the line.

Bottom line is bring good beer to enjoy while you wait and make friends. A little respect and common sense should keep everyone happy.

I remember waiting in line at UMaine hockey game against BC. There were people who attempted to cut the line, and got boo'd by a hundred angry people. When they still tried to cut people pushed them out of the way and told them to go the back and people started throwing stuff at them. If there is enough people in line, just call them out and the angry mob will do its work.

saw this unfold over the course of a morning while waiting for Great Taste tickets at Star a few years back

mid-morning, semi-good looking girl wanders in to the lot, approaches a group of guys who must have been there all night (they were 2nd group from the front of the line... based on their reaction she was way out of their league), walked up to a guy who appeared surprised/happy to have her company... hung out with the group for a few hours, snuggling/cozying up to the poor, dumb, bastard she selected. really laying it on thick. looked like the guy was feeling pretty good about things. who doesn't like a good looking girl that they just met being pretty touchy feely and aggressive?

couple of guys i was with were speculating on whether she was actually a girlfriend or just some conniving chick. we got our answer when ticket sales began.

as soon as people started walking in she detached herself from the guy, literally turning her back. the group of guys looked a bit bewildered but not as lost as her "ex" who i thought might actually cry.

she got her tickets and walked right on out of Star without her "friends".

one of my buddies went up and asked them if he was correct in his assessment that she was just some line-cutting chick... he was right. the group had never seen her before that morning and probably have never seen her again.

OP is apparently a Pemco subscriber (or at least is a fan of the commercials).

But, in all seriousness, I witnessed at least three line-cutters at Brouwers' Bigwood today. Those fucks got their beers a good 3 minutes before I did.
