brewed up a Belgian tripel today. Everything went pretty much to plan, hit my numbers spot on. (couldn't believe that - usually I'm a few points off one way or the other.)
Just as I was finishing up cleanup, I was ready to hit the couch and I get a call from my kid's school - he caught a toy golf club to the bean. Ended up going to the walk-in minute clinic and a couple staples later...

Same basic highly hopped 5% hoppy beer today. Really testing the “Survivable” hop chart with this one. Hot side is all Millennium and Mt Hood. Two of the more random hops high on the survivable list.

    2 Row
    20% Vienna
    5% Fawcett Caramalt
    5% Carafoam

    Millennium @ 90
    Mt Hood @ 30
    Mt Hood @ 50
    Millennium WP @ 180
    Mt Hood leaf in Hopback.

    1.052/1.014

    Vermont Ale

No clue what DH will be.

Dry hopped a similar beer with Zappa and Talus (HBC692). Crazy how potent these two hops are.

Didn't you do a hotside Millennium brew before? Results?

I’ve used it on the hotside but it was always blended with Idaho 7 or Mosaic and Simcoe so not sure what it was bringing. Hopefully this one will be a little more telling.

When you look at that chart Mt. Hood has pretty much all the same ratios as Citra but just slightly less of all of them.

Just mashed in on a big ol’ barleywine. Est OG 1.122. Columbus and Fuggle in the boil. Fermenting with WY1028 London Ale. Splitting the batch in secondary with a bourbon/Madeira spiral and letting them sit for 5-6 months. Possibly blending in the future depending on how they come out individually.

Strata is the shit. In my book it’s the one hop to come along in the last few years that actually deserves all the hype. It’s right up there with Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe, Galaxy, Nelson.

I need more info on your setup. I have the M&B and need to get a better recirc and sparge on it.

It’s just the basic Anvil Foundry setup. There is a plate that’s included with the grain basket that distributes the water through the grain like a manifold would. I still have to remove the lid and plate and stir the grains every 15min during the mash to get water/grain contact when I use more than 10# of grain. It’s only a 5.5 gallon kettle intended for 3 gallon batches but I push it every time. Trying to save up for the 10 gallon system and make this my HLT and get rid of my propane setup now. For sparge I just scoop out about half a gallon at a time and slowly pour it through the grains with the plate on it. I over shoot on HLT water temp because it drops a lot as I’m pouring. I should have gotten 71ish% efficiency on this brown but came in low at 67% but I noticed a lot of uncrushed grains when I emptied it later. Think I need to purchase a mill or ask my LHBS to double mill if they will.
