Serious question here, and this is not to put down SP in any way, sometimes you just drink something that you're not much of a fan of- the OG Maple in the wood I felt was cloyingly sweet. I couldn't finish a glass of the stuff and used it for cooking instead (brownies and chili, respectively, both were delicious). Will a double barrel treatment change this sweetness in any way? I know it depends on a variety of factors, just curious what some folks thought on how this might change the original release.

perhaps more barrel to cut the sweetness? i know some people who felt the same way about the “sweetness factor” on Maple in the Wood so i don’t think you’re alone.

It won’t make it necessarily less sweet, but the sweetness will definitely be more in balance with the barrel profile and less cloying. Kind of like balancing the main flavor components in food when cooking. A dish might be cloyingly heavy and savory and adding a little acid will brighten it up.

    I’d go for it.

It depends on what barrels they use, too. Seems like it is double whiskey barrel which should keep the sweetness down, especially if one were to be rye. The DB Derivations were cognac and port(iirc) for the 2nd barrel and I found them quite sweet.

was having this discussion last night with some friends over beers. $60 minimum for BBT 2020. and it will most likely be a package for public sales.

I'd imagine it will be $60ish. That BBT17 was $100 when you deduct the 2 other bottles and service fee.

The Rye BBT package was $130, if I recall correctly, but included less expensive companion bottles.
