I thought the BA Coffee and Vanilla Green City was pretty good, but yeah those bottles were not at all worth the price tag. My biggest issue with Other Half stouts are that they have too many adjuncts which just compete with one another on the palate, and that the mouthfeel is too thin. I'm looking for that brownie fudge mouthfeel and I don't get that at all with any of their stouts.

Also, release Oil Slicks this winter PLEASE

I'm with you on the thickness - but it's a hard to define thing for me. I wouldn't say they're thin necessarily, but they're sort of the wrong type of thicccc. Almost like the substance comes from whatever's been thrown in there vs the beer itself.

Speaking of Thiccccc™ - where in the fuck is @Feaor? You ok my dude?

To add to what @SpinSamzo said, the lactose in these BA beers is totally unnecessary to me, obvious reasons aside.

I’d love a BA Oil Slick bottle, or really just a non adjunct BA stout.

Also EQ just posted that 2 OH collabs are on the way next week. They described them as dreamy so I’m not exactly thrilled...

Question for the locals - Is there a reason OH seems to release more Daydream beers vs regular Dream beers?

Generally Daydream means it's an imperial (8-9% abv instead of 6-7%), and higher ABV beers get more hype and attention.

Real question, is there a difference nowadays? I think that there isn't honestly. They used Dream/Daydream interchangeably at the start, before it really stuck on as a thing it almost seems. I think they got stuck not being able to use "dream" for all 'tosed beer because Double Mosaic Dream was an OG beer sans 'tose before that was a real thing. It kinda went all sideways when you had DMD then had Citra Daydream and Double Citra Daydream but the galaxy equivalent became Space Dream and became confusing. @tinoynk is right on certain beers as well with the difference of ABV. At the end of the day unless its DMD any beer with the word in it has lactose and varying ABVs

I guess my question is more related to why they seem to make the oated/lactosed versions more than the straight up dreams. I love DMD and that's probably my favorite OH beer.

Must be laying low hoping everyone forgets FeaorFest 1 so he can spring into action when time is right to launch new and improved FeaorFest 2.

There may be one or two others - I get confused since they have made about 692 different IPAs at this point - but DMD is sort of a standalone as far as naming convention goes; at least out of the core beers

For some crazy reason, of the 398 beers they have made since the first batch of the awesome Citra+Strata they haven’t made it again, OH hates OG locals.

Yeah as @RauchbierFan33 touched on, basically the only beer with out lactose/oats that has Dream in it is DMD the rest all do as far as I am aware and if my memory is correct. If you don't want tose and want Citra or Galaxy you'd look for ACE, Space Diamonds and/or All Galaxy Everything now too, and Forever Simcoe or All Simcoe Everything

    Listen here you assless-chapped Sco.....North Dako...suburbanite twat.

I haven't had one of their big stouts in quite a while so my wild-ass guess is that it's not necessary to achieve the aims they are going for, and your subconscious knows it. You can brew a big thiccc stout with a luscious mouthfeel and sweetness without using lactose -- maybe mash high with a malt bill full of oats and wheat, go for a nice long boil, and add in a yeast that attenuates poorly for good measure. I imagine it's cheaper on an ingredients vs. boil kettle/heat source/space cost basis to use lactose to achieve that end -- gotta appease the private equiteers.

tl;dr: It's the PureBoi inside you demanding all breweries follow the Way of the Shaun/Dan.

    Hahaha

I’m totally with you about not being necessary - I think that’s the pureboi perspective here

But putting on my contrarian pastryboi hat - what is worse about an overly-sugary 14% stout with golden grahams, peanuts, hazelnuts, marshmallows, chocolate and tose, vs the same beer without tose? Seems like it’s destined to be too much with or without the tose

Yeah, not to keep harping, but I feel like the recent selections have been fairly light on the 'tose

Though I don't get the hate on lactose in stouts.

    Did you sleep on Galaxy+Strata?

Edit: Surely Mosaic+Strata will show up over the next 2 months or so. While we're talking about Mosaic dual hops, Mosaic + Motueka is one of the worst in the series imo

Hazelnut Headband is a pretty typical OH pastry stout, so if that's your thing giddyup. As for me, I'll be picking up stouts on President Street until Smokescreens returns.

Keeping up the charade that RBF is some North Dakota transplant and not rozzom? HF/Suarez nut hugging? This post is so meta.

When I say I don't like lactose in stouts, I'm talking specifically milk stouts along the lines of Left Hand. I think the bitterness and roast of a stout isn't something that should be covered up by sweetness, but I also like my coffee black and get that different folks like different things.

I think pastry stouts are a completely seperate category, and this is pretty much OH's wheelhouse these days when it comes to the stouts that they put out.

Speaking of President St, is there any reliable source for menu listing of cans to go? They used to post their options on the Insta but I haven't seen it in a while. Much prefer knowing what I want before showing up rather than making rash decisions on site.
